One of the greatest online games ever made has been brought down to its knees by rampant hackers. It is impossible to play a game of BF2 without seeing 50 jeeps falling from the sky, people shooting you through walls, destroying enemy installations such as radar and artillery only to see it restore within 2 seconds right before your very eyes.
People would still play this game today if it wasn't for the bullshit hacks that EA doesn't even acknowledge exists.
Aren't illegitimate keys ones that are a) copied from a legit purchase or b) generated using a keygen? In either case, key-banning would likely push a legit user off the game and, if there really is a plethora of keys, that could piss off a lot of real paying customers.
Whatever happened to banning CD-Keys? Was anybody else but me shocked after hearing infinity ward crying about how many people are playing CoD4 multiplayer with illigit keys? If they can't ban illigit keys, what the hell is the point of us having to put up with unique CD-Keys written in impossible to read typesets (is that a G or a 6?? a 0 or an o? an l or a 1?) for all these years? I've always known cd-keys in singleplayer games to be pointless without activation but COME ON! Multiplayer games MUST talk to a server that can validate the key!

Is this the patch that makes the game good? Not quite. This will be the patch where EA beta-tests their BF:Heroes micro transaction system. They'll start selling hacks on a monthly rental basis; $5 for unlimited jeeps, $10 for automatic repairing commander gear, $20 for wallhacks, and for $50 you get the complete package, including aimbots, firing through walls, and user-toggleable invulnerability.
Hey you ungrateful nitwit, maybe this shit is what they're fixing in the patch? It's been in a state for years and suddenly this patch is going to fix all the issues? Doesn't seem likely to me. This is just an excuse to get some positive PR after they killed the game off far too early with BF2142. I love the gameplay of the series but EA has fucked the series over so many times I don't dare trust them again. Shame, cos a Battlefield 3 could be great.
Will my AT rockets stop flying through tanks now?
