In checking out Stardock's new
Impulse
service,
GameCyte went to the unusual extent of actually reading the EULA,
discovering details that may help Impulse better compete with platforms like
Steam. Among the legalese are terms outlining 50/50 profit-sharing for
user-created content sold over the service. It's not 100% clear what form this
content is to take (they were unable to get a comment from Stardock), but the
obvious implication is game modifications. Since users are accustomed to getting
game modifications for free, this may be an uphill climb, but on the other hand
mod authors are accustomed to not being compensated for their efforts, so there
may be motivation on their end to give in to this Impulse.
