Age of Conan Movie/Preview

An Age of Conan: Hyborian Insider movie highlights the PvP action in Age of Conan (thanks Gamer's Hell). The clip includes gameplay action narrated by Funcom's Erling Ellingsen, who introduces PvP mini-games, and discusses how player versus player conflict will influence the state of the entire game world.

The install is not 32GB, think it was like 12-15GB and the installed game takes about 25.

This is pretty much right on the money...

The early release download is 13.4GB and installs to 23.9GB...

We'll see what patching does wednesday...

It has very nice environmental graphics. Great customization when you create your character. Somewhat adult theme but does not come close to say an R rated movie, then it's pretty tame. Imo the adult thing is mostly hype but it is still a change for the better compared to the competition.

Edit Forgot to mention that it has some of the best if not THE best sound in a game I have ever played including great music.

The PvP mini games are fun but I dread it will end up just like world of warcraft. FFA pvp (only rules on the pvp server)is also fun if that is your thing but it needs polish and harsher punishments for getting killed and ways of escaping spawn camping and choke points.

Combat is different from other mmorpgs and it is a fresh take on the whole thing unless you are a caster then its pretty much the same as for example WoW. First 20 levels have spoken dialog, most of it is done nicely even tho I suspect at least one voice is done by that Erling guy who cant "act" for shit and it sounds stupid but overall I enjoyed it.

As the NDA is still up from lvl 13 and above I can't comment on the endgame, but I will say this, I would wait a few days after it hits the stores before buying the game, see what the testers have to say and reviewers if you know any you trust. If I didn't have a computer that at least met the recommended spec I would not even consider buying it.

Someone give me the 60 second "good" side of AoC. What does it do well? Does it have a main focus? What about it makes you want to play the game?

I think Funcom or their publisher Eidos is going to offer some form of digital sale, but I'm not 100% on that, and I don't know if it'll be available at release.

Ok this is totally going to sound stupid and it's a little bit off topic, does anyone know if this game can be bought online? And I don't mean the retail version, i mean as in a digital download ala Steam or something like that.

I just found out that the fuckers who run the retail department in my company won't allow employees to buy AoC (since apparently we didn't preorder enough copies so our customers come first)

What a first class fuck-up.

I'm looking forward to a UO (early, early days) replacement where the strong survived and every time you left the city you could be attacked at any moment. Made you think much more then just sitting at an edge of a zone and pulling MoB's again, and again, and again as you have to watch for human controlled raiders. I also don't care if I get ganked so as long as AoC is not like EQ where items cost 1,000,000 for a glass of wine. In UO if you got ganked and lost your items it would hurt a little bit but you could recover with a little bit of effort.

Anyways, sounds like a fun game.

Mind it was a 24 hour slaughter fest, on purpose. Once the game comes out and the PvP servers have been up for a time, things won't be quite so crazy with the spawn camping and ganking, etc.

i dont know yet if i will play it or not, i played mmog for a long time and tryed mostly every major titles. and i end up playing eve. i like multi accounts, not too much time consuming in certains areas, i mean you can do something else while idle or camping and best with the GTC its free, i mean you can have 5, 10, 15+ accounts its free if you have enough isk and you dont need that much.

anyway back on the topic. about age of conan i may give it a try, i wanted to join a Pvp server, but from what i rode in the forums there some harsh rez camping, zone, town, grey lvl camping.
from my extensive experience (175 days played total) in WoW, i was in one of the most active pvp server of my language. i very rarely got killed being grey to another player, apart when i stumbled upon a large group. but its was mostly fairplay. anyway i guess there a lot of tweaking and balance to do like in any other game.

from what i understand WoW is almost totally pvp focused now anyway.

it may be too late for anyone to read this, but i think that impression comes from the fact that the arenas are the most fun thing to do currently. its always different and fun, even though its always the same "maps".

the other content seems to be pretty much the same as it has been from the (relative) start. you can raid, and do battlegrounds, but once you get bored with that, the only truly repeatable content in the game is the arena.

but ill try to de-threadjack and say im gonna def. get aoc. if its killer, im gonna get my whole guild to switch over if i can.

Open beta was fun...I always go PVE but I had a blast on the last day of beta with the FFA PVP. Fun all around. Can't wait until early access starts.

I'm an old EQer, not a fan of Wow or EQ2 but Age of Conan is looking great.

i'm actually not a pvp fan, but i'm aware that AoC is apparently very pvp focused so i'm going into it expecting that.

This movie is a week or two old lol. But thats fine.

The PvP weekend was a tun of fun. The last day of Open Beta was full on open world PvP. Anywhere outside a city it was a clusterf&#k lol. People who don't like open PvP were all bitching but those who enjoy that kind of thing it was massively fun. Especially with the patch a few days before that really cleaned up the technical problems and framerate issues.
