I love the line in A Bridge Too Far, where the German general says 'Ist Patton or Montgomery?' regarding who would be leading the charge against them, and then says, 'Ja, ist Patton.' then something to the effect of not even the allies are that stupid they'd allow Montgomery to do it.

Ahh, Operation Market Garden.

For anyone interested in checking this game out, I've started a thread at battlefront.com to give away free copies of the entire series. All you have to do is post a number between 1 and 10,000...you get the closest, you win.

This is a series I've played for years now with great replayability. The 1939 Fall Weiss campaign has been the cornerstone of SC2, allowing you to pursue lots of different strategies from the start. What if Germany invested more heavily into their U-Boats? What if the Allies decided to skip North Africa and Italy and land D-Day in 1943 instead?

A new Fall Weiss campaign is included with the PDE expansion now, which gives even more options with Decision Events and starts in "pre-war" stage, allowing the Axis player to build up until 1941 before going to war if they want or start the war earlier. Want to skip Poland and go straight for France? When Paris is taken do you form Vichy France, or press on to take all of France's territory?

errr... you really think 'the communists' were a threat to the western way of life?
After WW2 when the Russians had 20 million dead and had been through one of the most bitter and bloody wars in their history?
The cold war was more about an economics arms race to bankrupt Russia by forcing it to build more weapons, than a serious need to protect against a Russian invasion.

Seriously?! That title just screams hilarity!

It's an apt title though. It's a well known bit of history that General Patton wanted to steamroll the Soviet army with his tanks right after the western Allied forces were done with defeating the German army, or at least try to. This expansion deals with what-if scenarios, and that would be the biggest what-if of WW2.

He was right about the Communists being a threat to the Western way of life and the cold war that was caused by the incompatibilities, maybe he was right about the western Allies' ability to defeat them.

Seems this game lets you at least pretend to find out what a strategic maelstrom it would have been.
