Blizzard Gets Diablo3.com (Updated)

DiabloFans.com has the outcome of the countdown that started on Diablo3.com a couple of weeks ago (story), saying that Blizzard is taking over the Diablo3.com domain from them. Expectations that the announcement to which they were counting down were tempered by a follow-up (story), but this move carries the obvious implication that Blizzard is turning their attention to a next installment in the action/RPG series, welcome news to a good number of Diablo fans (though DiabloFans.com has word from Blizzard saying this should not to be considered a Diablo III announcement. Update: It seems the assumption originally expressed here that Blizzard bought the domain may have been incorrect, as there are indications the domain was freely handed over. Apologies for the error.

Haven't been here in quite awhile. I'm sick of the over abundance of worthless, useless news. D3 would be the rare important newsworthy story even as rumor.

But I just had to chime in to say CJ Parker is a complete idiot. He sort of reminds me the useless toilet paper I flush down every single day. I wouldn't expect him to grow up. He'll always be a little child in his own mind and obviously to minds of all others that have to listen to him or read his words. He's like a deer tick that you have to deal with until you get home to where there are some tweezers to pull his ugly little head off or whatever it is that people are supposed to do to deer ticks. ANyway, just saying that he's a remarkably annoying little pest that has practically no actual value at all and should be killed when convenient.

I really think CJ Parker could be the ugliest, most stupid, pathetic human being on the planet. Well, at least he'd get a lot of votes for it if they had a reality show called "UGLY MORONS".

BTW, hi everyone.... else.

CJ, as usual, STFU.

As usual: How about umm... no, dickhead? Hahahahaha...

Anyway, I don't know about U.S. law but in the country where I live, if Blizz had sued these guys, Blizz would've been successful and these guys would've been forced to surrender the domain. Our courts established that ruling a long time ago (around the year 2000 or so) when a lot of n00b-ish idiots thought they were clever registering well known brand names to sell them for shitloads of cash. Our judicial system quickly put an end to that by giving the brand owners first dibs on the same domain name as the brand.

CJ, as usual, STFU.

Two very different circumstances that has no relation to the other. The Bnet lawsuit was to defend their property. diablo3.com is not their property. Doesn't matter if someone else owns the domain, Blizzard has no right to it, suing to try and take over the domain would just make them look like assholes.

Regardless, that's not the case. The Diablo fans that ran the site, agreed to hand over the domain, Blizzard got them a new domain and is giving them all the time they need to transition over. End of story. It really is a non-story and the whole "countdown" was a lame-ass stunt to begin with.

Blizzard is super aware of their image. They wouldn't want the PR hit of suing someone.

They wouldn't? You mean like the guys with their alternative Battle.net service who got the living fuck sued outta their asses by Blizzard? Ho-hummm... some real "super awareness" right there, man.

Seriously, get real. Blizzard are by far not the holy, little saints that people are making them out to be. Like any other business they have in the past and will continue to defend their (intellectual) property. By legal means if necessary. End of story.

Now grow the fuck up and quit your meth dreams about Blizzard Holy Land. Yes, and cancel that WoW sub and get outta your parents' basement, too.

Wouldn't matter.

Blizzard is super aware of their image. They wouldn't want the PR hit of suing someone. Regardless of who is right it's always a hit to the suing party.

To me it combined the classic hack n' slash RPG with the arcade pace of gauntlet which made it insanely addictive.

Diablo isn't an RPG. It's a 2D action game with stats. It has more in common with Serious Sam than actual RPGs like Fallout or Baldur's Gate.

Erm so lemme get this straight....The BIG ANNOUCEMENT is that they GAVE AWAY the www.diablo3.com domain name to Blizzard.....

So if tommorow some dude sends me an email and claims that Im the lucky owner of the www.freespace3.com domain name, that automatically means that Freespace 3 is in development. LOL!

Shiiit, if D3 was really in development Blizzard would probably pay good $$$ for that site. This news is just retarded and meaningless.

I have a nifty blue line!

Diablo 2 was fast paced with hordes of enemies. To me it combined the classic hack n' slash RPG with the arcade pace of gauntlet which made it insanely addictive.

Yeah, that's pretty much my sentiment with the game.

While other people load up Hearts or Solitaire for a quick diversion while waiting for something or other, Diablo II fills that niche for me.

I haven't played much D2 Multiplayer, but the main focus on the trade and acquiring of shiny loots (for most people, apparently) is what draws the WoW comparisons.

I'm sure the original owner of Diablo3.com didn't give it for free. He traded it for alpha/beta access to the game and a free copy when it comes out and possibly some other phat D3 loot.

I wish people would stop calling WoW "Diablo 3". It's like comparing monster truck rally to Indy car racing.

Diablo 2 was fast paced with hordes of enemies. To me it combined the classic hack n' slash RPG with the arcade pace of gauntlet which made it insanely addictive.

WoW on the other hand is slow and monotonous. It should be called Everquest 2.5

Maybe they'll even throw in resolutions higher than 800x600!!

I never got how Diablo was so insanely popular. I played the first one and though it seemed overly 'click-heavy', I had a great time with it. But I don't get why it has such a rabid devoted following even to this day. Then again, I really don't see what separates World of Warcraft from the 685 other fantasy MMORPGs out there. I guess Blizzard just has that special something.

Blizzard has lawyers, it probably would have been cheaper for them to take it to court if he hadn't handed it over freely.

In short: If D3 is to D2 what SC2 seems to be to SC1, yes.
So, the same game but with more cartoony graphics?

Nah, I'm kidding. I never played any of the Diablo games - not for any particular reason either - but I'd be interested to see what Diablo 3 is like, should it be developed.

From their forum (saw on rockpapershotgun, but they didn't give the forum link):

Mockery granted the domain name in mutual agreement … a fan himself, he was glad to. There was no sale. It was given free.

Unless they implement something really fresh and revolutionary, I don't want another hack RPG.

That isn't a very good question....I mean....there are still people that congregate to basements and dress up as *insert dork costume here* and play D&D.....
