My achievements were not reset and I got my first unlock the blutsauger. However I just wish there was a different console death icon when you kill someone with the blutsauger instead of the normal syringe gun. That way people would see that you got a kill using it instead of the normal syringe gun. Every weapon should have a different cosole death message icon. Come on valve!

The new achievements and unlocks seem cool, but it's a shame only medics get them for now. I hope they do pyro next. I don't really play the class often, but I think they could use some love.

They just released an update which disabled the unlocking console command, but they also reset everyone's medic achievements. Lame. Oh well, I only had 4.
Wait. I got the update, but my medic achievements that I earned yesterday did not get reset. Does that mean that mine won't get reset? With all the stats Valve has gathered, it should be hard for them to come up with an algorithm to determine who cheated with the console command and who did not.

Also they need a do a better job of getting rid of debug cvars BEFORE releasing so this does not happen again.

Well glad you could take a break from your QW addiction to play with the rest of us.

Hey - are you spying on me?

I am just really into ET:QW at the moment. Boy, it's pretty jarring going from a fairly serious MP game like ET to the light-hearted care-free feel of TF2. I hope to be playing TF2 again tonight with my son and daughter.

I haven't played in quite awhile, other than a couple random games. Been too busy with other things, and have been trying to get some of the single-player games done, so I haven't really played any online MP of anything.

I was online playing last night when the update got rolled out. We got kicked and then updated. Once we were back online, EVERYONE was a medic. It was a blast

I played it for an hour or so last night, then gave up. I guess it will take a week or so for it to die down. Most of my time has been playing medic, usually because, like xXBatmanXx said, nobody else ever played that class. I like to play as a medic, but I also like to get to play other classes as well. Last night I finally got to play something else, because the entire team was filled with achievement whoring medics. Some were even using voice coms to coordinate which stat they needed to work on next.

I wish they would have left it alone, or at least waited to patch it when the achievements and unlocks for the rest of the classes were done.

It's true. Good servers have established communities where you don't have to worry about cheating, newbs or trolls. Of course, pubbing will never have the same intensity or challenge involved in competitive play but it's a sacrifice you have to make if you don't have the time to commit to team practices, scrims and matches.

The only achievement I have a problem with is that stupid "play with 8 friends" one. Is this to promote clans again or something? Achievements should be about your ability to play, not your ability to make fake online playbuddies.

I mention this all the time in these comments, but I can't stress it enough, find a server/community you enjoy and stick with it.

There's four ways to play online shooters:

With strangers (server hopping)
With real life friends (hard to coordinate)
With a clan (too much work/commitment)
With a community (my favorite)

When you play with a community and become a server regular, you learn who the good players are, you become friends with the admins, and you benefit from teamwork and coordinated efforts.

So eventually you'll add people to your friends list or they'll ask to add you and you'll have that "With friends like these" achievement without even realizing you got it.

Members of the Bluesnews Steam group should beware of users passing themselves off as Steam admin and asking for login details. It's pretty obvious it's a scam but sometimes people need a reminder that there are bastards out there trying to screw them over. The name of the one today was "Validation", or something similar.

I had fun for like the first 30 minutes or so then quickly tired of the everyone running around like a brain dead medic with ADHD trying to get valve's retarded achievements that have nothing to do with actually playing the game to win.

I love this game, but I still haven't found a net game I've loved more than QWTF.

I'm glad they've decided to do another free weekend. It's been awhile.

i just cant seem to find it fun. it just feels like the same game ive played over and over again. that coupled with the fact i find the art style unappealing (im an art whore so that's a big deal for me) i guess i'll never see what other see.

then again so many kids these days never played these games as mods back in the day like we did. so its all new and fresh to them.

is that why they take so long making games? ;p

I will get shit for this and deservedly so..
I'm an old school NetQuake player.. old school FPS'er.. hard core gamer..
and on sunday night, i finally downloaded Steam and TF2.

I am WAY behind.
However.. good god that game is fucking fun.

nah - I got it right away, played for a couple months, now only play when people do an invite....

The game will go back to sucking with no medics very quickly. I have a lot of time as Medic, but get bored as I am the only one and everyone bitches for a medic.

Here's how it works EVERYTIME:
Team Blue: Zero Medics
Team Red: 2 Medics

Team Red wins every single time.

No thanks....

I played yesterday right after the update, and medics comprised half of the teams on both sides. I think the only thing preventing full medic teams was that people wanted to play the new map (Goldrush), but I guess I'll see a lot more doctors in the servers I usually play in the following days.

Which means I should start playing as heavy or sniper for the next month... both classes will have a field day with all the doctors running around. Spies and engineers should be fun to play as well.
