All these people like Tony claiming they are hardcore simply because they played games a long time ago ain't got a clue.
I rarely play games these days but I'm hardcore because the games I play are hardcore games. Recently I have been revisiting old school games which I never played upon release such as the homeworld series, absolutely superb. I'm also considering playing through Deus Ex again as I've found a widescreen hack so I can play it at 1680 x 1050, nice!
Consoles are toys and only designed for 1 thing games, a pc is an investment you can do so much more like work, music production, web design, internet, video production so in my opinion pcs are damn cheap considering what they can do, you arn't limited either and you have the power to change things as you see fit, see mods.
I honestly don't care about the big companies all moving to consoles as they haven't made any good games for a hell of a long time. Indies are where its at, check out Savage 2 & Sins of a Solar empire, both interesting PC only games created to a high standard. Indies have passion, they create works of art, money is secondary. I'm hoping PC gaming will revert to how it used to be with small teams producing excellent titles, non of this 50 million to create some crappy MMO which gets delayed and is released full of bugs.
I recently sold my Wii and DS lite, I barely used them because they quite simply are for kids and the games suck majorly. Novelty gaming ain't for me, all this simulation crap is stupid like pretend to play golf or bowling, or be in a rock band? why not actually do these things in real life.
Anyway on a positive note I'm hoping that in the years to come we shall see a big surge or indies releasing quality original titles with great success, sins of a solar empire has shown how things can be done. It doesn't take millions to make a game thats just bad management.
