steve nix is not ignoring market realities but he fails to admit that these assumptions are based on flawed statistics. someone is benefiting from not releasing the statistics of online sales and subscriptions but it clearly is not id software.
QFT!
If that stupid freaking NPD report wasn't so biased and out of touch, things wouldn't 'appear' remotely so bad. In reality, hand-helds are NOT consoles. YOu don't hook them up to your TV and sit on your couch and play them with a controller do you? Hand-Helds are generally in their own category, but apparently NPD figures everything for gaming that isn't a PC, must be a console.
Second, if that stupid ass report counted casual PC games, MMOG subscriptions and Digital sales, PC gaming would look MUCH stronger. Combined with Hand-Helds being in their own category, consoles wouldn't have looked nearly as strong, and PC's nearly as weak.
That and they should maybe look at the numbers for the world, not just the US. Here in the US consoles clearly have the spotlight. In Asia it's hand-helds, they use WAY more then any other platform. In Europe the PC platform is very very strong.
I have a feeling next years NPD report is going to be a lot more conservative and realistic. They've taken no small amount of flack over their botched 'report'.
