...what sort of people buy this crap?

Women and teens.

That should answer everything.

Jesus Christ, will this fucking franchise just die and go away please!?

the sims probably made more money than Deus Ex, or Bioshock, or Crysis, or Portal. as long as it makes more money, it will prosper better than other games.

Jesus Christ, will this fucking franchise just die and go away please!? When people speak about video games as a major time waster this franchise takes the cake.

Bilbo I think the people who enjoy this type of game are perhaps one of two (or both) types:

* Someone who feels as if much of their life is out of their control and want to enjoy having some control
* Teenage girls and young women.

Perpetual debt is slavery.

So you started playing The Sims during your free time rather than pursuing arts and crafts, sports or reading more books... so that now, with the new "Free Time" expansion for The Sims you can watch your Sims do arts and crafts, sports and even read books!

What's next, a "web surfer" expansion where my Sims can browse the internet, stream videos, buy things online and post comments on news articles? That would certainly be more fun than actually doing any of that myself.

I am curious to see how well this sells though.
