DX10 Assassin's Creed Faster Than DX9

PCGH has a quick Q&A with Charles Beauchemin of Ubisoft about how the PC edition of Assassin's Creed will run faster under DirectX 10 than DirectX 9, though both versions will look the same. They discuss why this is the case, though this all applies to Windows Vista, and it is not stated whether Assassin's Creed will run faster under DirectX 10 and Vista than it will under DirectX 9 and Windows XP.

Bullshit. Why does a person with a 8600GT and Vista get to run Very High whilst someone with an 8800GTX and XP only High? It was done because the game was hyped on DX10 features and they wanted to make it look like their focus on it was worthwhile. Anyway, it runs shit on all computers so there still isn't a computer with enough horsepower to run Very High at an acceptable framerate.
It does seem like a marketing gimmick to promote DX10. They should have made Very High accessible for both XP and Vista, but included a DX10 checkbox that is checked when running in DX10 mode. That way gamers could clearly see that they're going to get more effects in DX10 mode, but XP gamers wouldn't feel like they were second-class citizens and excluded from running on Very High.
