As soon as I hear the words, "for any non-commercial project." I stop reading.

Can that be put at the beginning of the post next time?

Eh? Basically it means they are giving the software away to mod developers who aren't making money from the software. It's a very good thing for the mod community and those who enjoy said mods.

So let's say a group of modders want to use an engine that does not have the physics processing they want to use, but they like the other parts of the engine. Now, they can plug in the Havok tools without paying a licensing fee for their free mod.

It's not just mod makers. Let's not the whole "independent game community" thing. The freeware independent game is kinda the big thing the PC has always had going for it, in the face of all the bullshittery the games industry has pulled and might pull in the future.

As soon as I hear the words, "award winning" I stop reading. It's pretty much gotten to the point where I laugh anytime I see it, because it means absolutely nothing. Half of all press announcements include those words, most of which are for products that wouldn't have received any kind of an award for anything.

"And we are pleased to announce the award winning Castles 7: Lancelot's Revenge"! "Rejoice! The team that brought you the award winning games "Tusco's Storm", "Battle Chess 67", and "Bad Day L.A." are pleased to bring you yet another award winning....... it goes on forever.

I just did a search for the past two weeks of Bluesnews, the words "award winning" pop up an average of 3 times a day for random games.

It isn't only for non-commercial projects. They will also set up free commercial distribution licenses.

"approved game developers on the PC platform can execute a commercial distribution license with Havok for free"

Now that Nvidia has bought AGEIA, we're bound to see that PoS PhysX merged into their cards, and probably quite a few developers shifting from Havok to PhysX.

To all our detriment.
