New KOTOR Follow-up

EA sent a clarification about indications that a new Knights of the Old Republic game is in the works (story), saying the slide in question has been misinterpreted, and the game in works at BioWare is a "New MMO": "The slide in John's presentation is titled 'Best Creative Talent' -- it addresses future and past titles. KOTOR, Black, Boogie, Skate and some other titles on the slide speak to past portfolio releases and the pedigree of the studio but do not specifically address future sequels. The MMO in development at Bioware Austin is listed a 'New MMO'. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused."

So basically it's a list of the key games by EA studios and not a list of upcoming games... brilliant. That's a real shame, though considering how few Star Wars games there have been recently I'm not surprised this sequel isn't on the table. It's still possible a sequel is in the works but there's absolutely no evidence to support it.

Way to get 10 million people to simultaniously go

'WOOOT!'

and then tell them all you didn't mean it might actually happen.

You suck EA!

Meanwhile, at Bioware:

"Calm down everyone! We're not doing another KOTOR. Let's just get TIE Fighter sequel with RPG elements finished, ok?"

(I can't dream, dammit.)

When it was 'pseudo-announced' yesterday I was kinda surprised. Bioware has a lot on their table right now. ME PC, downloadable content for Xbox360 ME, ME2/3, Dragon Age and the unannounced MMOG.

That and it wasn't that long ago Bioware said they were gonna start doing only their own IPs because it was simply to much a pain in the ass to work on someone elses.

But hey, for enough cash, I'm sure they'd eventually agree to do another.

I was really excited about a new KOTOR from BioWare... although EA didn't explicitly deny that a KOTOR was in production. Damn.

Bio's previous statement about no longer working on other people IP's is pretty much null and void. They have new bosses now calling the shots. They'll work on whatever EA wants them to work on and that's really all there is to it. If it's KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 then that's just what it is.

It seems Tie Fighter gets brought up more and more often recently. I really wish developers / publishers would actually read these boards, realise the potential and go make some of these games. I would go pre-order any Tie Fighter sequel in a flash, then drool over my keyboard til I got a mild electric shock.

Maybe I'm stretching this too much, but I'd say that the Secret Order of the Emperor was an "RPG element." And it was the best part of the best game ever.

I was thinkin along the same lines...you start out as a nobody, as you're assigned missions. But in between missions, you have Wing Command 1 style conversations with other characters (with different dialogue responses), and eventually you move up and start picking missions from a group.

Depending on what you do on a given mission (what you shoot down) other missions might become available. Or X number of points/kills that you earn by shooting down enemies qualifies you for new weapons and ships...

But like other have said: I'd take any sort of TIE Fighter sequel, even a straight port of the old missions to a new engine.

I know the last Secret Weapons game wasn't the best. Fine. If Holland isn't up to it, bring another team in.

edit: And a damn mission tree like WC1: so that, depending on if you won or lost a mission, the story/missions would change, which would help replayability.

What is the big deal? Just tell us what they're making already - they're wasting more time and energy covering up the fucking thing. Unless its so freaking next gen, like maybe an MMOG where we plug into a matrix and we run around in a full blown virtual world while sitting at home in a dentist chair and a big pair of 3-d goggles on our head. But if you're not making one then just tell us what the fuck it is.

bummer, sounds like the KOTOR game is at best still on the drawing board or worse, never gonna happen.
