I have already listed my problems.
I have talked about them in great detail.

Yes. And you have unfortunately also talked about how great 98SE was which gives me a nice idea about your level of proficiency (or extreme lack thereof to be precise) so if your Vista probs are really irresolvable is most questionable.

Seriously, only a complete uber n00b would claim that 98SE was great.
For starters you couldn't just let 98SE run 24/7. You had to reboot the system frequently to fix the issues that would begin to show up after a while of use (apps crashing inexplicably, short freezes, blue screens etc). The more load you put on the system the more likely it became that you needed to reboot. You couldn't just open 10 instances of IE or Netscape for example. At least not for long. The system got clogged up quickly when you did a lot of things in parallel or simultaneously. Windows 98SE (like all previous incarnations of Windows with 16-bit leftovers) just wasn't made for real multitasking. That's also why you had to reinstall 98SE every few months because the system was very prone to getting clogged up and accumulated all sorts of junk over time that would lead to random issues from crashing to freezing to obscure error messages and so on.

Please. Get real and refresh your memory. 98SE was OK for its time but I'm sure glad that frequent reboots, blue screens and reinstalls have become a thing of the past thanks to XP. Honestly, 98SE sucks giant loads of ass compared to XP.

I just don't feel the need to "upgrade" to a new OS that I will have to learn when it plays games slower than XP. I accept that I will have to upgrade one day; actually I was hoping that it would be the OS after Vista.

I'm beginning to suspect that people who hate Vista just don't have the hardware to run it. It was the same argument when XP first came out ...

Not the case.

I gotta agree w/ nin. Been running Vista a few months now, no problems. *With* file and printer sharing wirelessly with my two laptops.

The only reason I saved a small partition to dual boot with XP is to run Crysis a little faster and run an earlier, more-DRM free version of Roxio. Everything else is fine under Vista. I'm beginning to suspect that people who hate Vista just don't have the hardware to run it. It was the same argument when XP first came out ...

Actually I bet there's someone reading this post that still uses 98SE

Say what you want about 98SE, but that motherfucker was stable and it booted at warp 9!

Fuck Vista.

UAC doesn't solve it.

What examples can you list? Because I don't get nagged at all.

edit: Also, on the DVD stuff, you do dual layer to dual layer, I asked about dual to single and no one has anything. I tried it all.....crap crap crap. Vista is crap.

What are you talking about? Compression? I'm pretty sure Nero and AnyDVD both do that...

And why is that Vista's fault?

Then turn off UAC. It takes all of about 5 seconds.
Seriously, its not that big of a deal.

UAC doesn't solve it.
Yes it is a big deal.
I have posted my network/printing woes and no one has resolved them.
2 other dudes that are still IT Technicians (me no more) also looked at it - didn't work.

Doesn't matter - it is crap anyway.

I am back with XP Pro on 5 boxes.

On a network?

Yes.

With network printing/file sharing, etc?
No.

DVD editing/burning?
You bet. Nero and Roxio both.

Music editing/burning?
ACID. Audiograbber, Nero wave editor, etc...

I don't want a restrictive OS

Nobody seems to be able to create good stable drivers for it!

I've been running Vista since July with no issues...

On a network?
With network printing/file sharing, etc?

What a nightmare.

DVD editing/burning?
Music editing/burning?

Vista blows.
I don't want a restrictive OS - I want something wide open because I am not an idiot that needs MSFT's protection (no I do NOT want Linux).

More like "Bring Back Win 98SE Fully patched".

That OS ran forever......no issues, very clean, drivers were super simple, no network problems, no BS. Just a nice base OS. Could do whatever you wanted to......

I miss those days.

The SB Live drivers from Windows Update will bluescreen Vista, or at least it will bluescreen 64-bit vista, if you try playing around with the speaker settings. But I've moved on to hacked drivers and haven't had problems since.

I think the situation will be like it was earlier this decade, there'll be people who hang on to XP like people used to hang on to 98SE. Actually I bet there's someone reading this post that still uses 98SE.

I have used Vista (32 bit with 2GB RAM) for work every day since September and only had one problem which a patched DLL solved.
But I have had minor problems with my Chinese manufacturers using their home-grown XP clone.
None the less, if they see a market in the west you can bet that they'll polish it up and westernise it and make it available.
And all Microsofts whining and lawyers won't impress them at all, it'll be "come over here and fight that case in our courts".

Like anyone really gives a fuck whether you will or will not ever move on from XP. The future is inevitable. Unless you kill yourselves today you will have to deal with Vista and Windows 7 replacing XP. So STFU and deal with it or buy yourselves Linux and a pet penguin to make love to or whatever whiny little n00b cunts like you tards do when they're pissed off at the evuuuhhhl M1cR0$s0ft umpire...

I'll defend the fios, while they do offer less channels, the ones availiable are good. They also give you the local channels in HD and some VOD and PPV. There is no extra charge for any of the HD channels on fios.
I hooked up the rabbit ears to my tv and compared the local channels over the air verses through fios and the fios does look much better. This was done on a 42" plasma with 95% signal strength on the over the air antenna.
Although I pay 20.00 for the HD DVR it is still cheaper than buying an HD package and an HD reciever and the monthly fee on satellite.

The main thing that's stopping me using Vista more is just laziness and ignorance, I just can't be bothered to relearn the ins and outs of a new operating system (and maybe the cost of the software)

I would openly agree that Vista is typical of earlier MS OSs in that they like to move shit around and change where you find things.

But since I imagine I'll eventually be supporting it at work, and it came with my last computer, I can't see a reason not to use it.

Bye bye Windows XP, bye bye pc gaming!

Is this Microsoft's plan to sell more X-boxes and kill off PC gaming once and for all!

Windows XP has been the most stable of all of the Microsoft operating systems. Vista like windows ME is nothing but a headache! Nobody seems to be able to create good stable drivers for it!

I don't need Vista to run PC games and I don't want it! All of my future PC game purchases are on hold, because my next PC will not be runing Microsoft if I have to use Vista!
Bye Bye PC gaming!
