My early impressions:

The game looks nice. No it isn't "Crysis in space", but the graphics do a wonderful job of helping you buy into the idea that you're in space. The starships look majestic and powerful, and the effects are beautiful. It looks a good deal like the Homeworld series, and as a fan of that game, I'm not complaining one bit.

The game has really nice attention to detail. I love the little effect that shows the little space cars traveling between destinations on the planet - little touches like that really add flavor to the game.

The user interface is very intuitive to me so far; I need more time to learn the ins and outs of it.

The sound is cool but maybe a bit understated. I dialed the effects volume up to max and it sounds good.

Okay - back to the game now!

I can see how someone could justify pirating EA games purely because they are such a monolithic evil.

They sell games that people buy, that's all.

And so does Microsoft.

You cannot justify pirating Stardock's games, and if you do, you are a piece of shit, period.

Does it have an option to hide the interface?

I believe theres a switch in the options for "cinematic mode" that hides some or all of the interface, but I've not tried it yet to verify what exactly it hides...

I also run it at 1680x1050, and yes it's properly supported and looks great.

as far as how it compares to homeworld, I'd say the closest thing it resembles is Conquest: Frontier Wars, without the campaign, if you know that title. it's basically a real time 4x game.

also, I'd like to point out that it seems the AI has gotten smarter from the beta, last night the two AI I was fighting coordinated simutaneous attacks on 2 of my systems, took out the infrastructure and fixed defences and bombed the planet a bit, then took off when the fleet arrived. great fun

See nin's post.

It works fine in widescreen resolutions.

What does "works on my 24" widescreen mean?"

I bet it will work on my 1992 14" crt as well but that doesn't tell me whether or not it has proper widescreen support.

Also hows it compare to homeworld?

It doesn't, two very completely different games.

At least I am intelligent enough to bring forth a valid argument, like it or not.

Wow. Not only are you a dumbfuck, Surf, but also a pretentious, vain and delusional one. So you're actually on the dangerous side of retarded, huh?
Man, sure glad to know that you are such a little no life loser that you'll never be any real threat to people. Whew.

Final question: Why did you stop using the Jeryyk account? You (two? or your alter ego?) sound an awful lot alike in trying to make up bullshit justifications for stealing.

Surf, I'll address your first post rather than your second seeing that it is simply insulting people.

No one is making "sweeping" generalizations about Stardock. They are one of the good guys. Their motto is to not treat the customer like a criminal by mucking it up with DRM garbage. They made a public statement against crap like Starforce when their last game came out. Instead of DRM they give people a reason to buy their game by offering lots of free content and, of course, full support for the game. Simply put, Stardock are very well known so the "sweeping generalizations" accusation couldn't be more wrong.

Also, you seem to be confused about the difference between a publisher and developer. Most of the behavior you are railing about comes from publishers and NOT devs. FWIW I agree with you on a lot of your points. Companies like EA are reprehnsible. Unfortunately 99% of devs don't have the money to fund a game on their own so they need to crawl to companies like EA who can finance them. As the old saying goes "he who pays the piper gets to call the tune" (cliche slinging faggot that I am) so things like patches, release dates, whether or not it gets shipped in a playable state is all up to the publishers with the developers not having a single word in the matter.

I can't wait to play this. This game that I PAID FOR.

I love how people try to rationalize bad behavior in today's society through some kind of BS victim entitlement mentality.

This game is really enjoyable. I haven't had a chance to sit down and play it at length yet but I got a bit of time in and enjoyed it greatly.

Surf you are a retard.

When a movie comes out you look at the reviews <more then one> and get feedback from other people to see if is its any good. Therefore you can make an informed decision. Same goes with books, music, plays and electronics.

If you want to find out if something is worth buying/doing use reviews and feedback.

If a play gets bad reviews and your friends all say it sucks you don't sneak into the theater.

There is NO argument for piracy.

And no the, "Gamespot is teh LIES!" crap doesn't fly. Thats why you read more then one review.
