XBLA Download Limit Issues

XBLA download limit causing SSF2THD Remix problems on VideoGamer.com hears from David Sirlin of Capcom, who is working on an HD remix version of Super Street Fighter 2 for Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network, learning that a 150 MB download limit for XBLA may result in this edition having significant differences from the PSN edition. Word is:
Yes, it's difficult to store so many 1080p graphics in such a small download size. A lot depends on the specific shading that the final art will have, and how well that shading compresses. It also makes it difficult or impossible to include all the original game's music AND all remixed set of music. We're still doing our best to fit within the limit we've been given

OH hey hey now Blue, I'll take you on in some vocal competition.

Altho I totally agree, no matter which instrument you play, IF you're winning, they quit out. every time.

I'm pretty sure that while I have several pseudo-wins under my belt, I have precisely ZERO recorded ones.

Use the brand new TrueSkill™ Matchmaking system to play against opponents with similar skills, personalities, and gaming tastes.

Or, in my experience doing online vocal competition in Rock Band:

Use the brand new TrueSkill™ Matchmaking system to play against opponents who have less than one-thirtieth of your own TrueSkill score even after they quit half-way through your prior match and you marked their profile "avoid this player."

To my experience, TrueSkill = Random.

Yeah they want to try and "entice" people like me who generally don't game online a reason to go gold, by stripping out silver features. That week delay for demos isn't going to do it. Actually, there isn't much, if anything, that would get me to pay for it.

Live account feature list...probably not all encompassing, but good enough. One thing I do notice missing is that Gold members get demo's a week before Silver.

"except for the online multiplayer"

Wouldn't that be a pretty big sticking point?

I'd say that's probably the number one reason for going online if the first place.

# Where's all the 360 fanboys with the "you get what you pay for" comments when comparing LIVE to PSN?

As far as I can tell Live is entirely free except for the online multiplayer. I've browsed around it for a bit and wasn't locked out of anywhere and could use everything it looked like.

I pretty much just use the 360 as a media center extender so I don't know what else a pay subscription gets you. I think it's just paying for a matchmaking service for the most part.

I think the drive requirement is a step in the right direction. The core system was a terrible idea.

Well the disclaimer on the box is in pretty fine print...and from my understanding it wasn't mentioned before. I could be wrong since I haven't seen it for myself and didn't follow previews for Burnout Paradise. But it seems to be a fairly new revelation.

Too busy getting pissed at EA for this...

360 Burnout Paradise online needs hard drive.

pissed at them for that? hell no, i praise them for that. tired of being held back by people that bought the non hard drive version of the 360. kind of wish MS would be like "look, you can still play SOME games, but other require the HDD. sorry!" honestly, i wish they never even released a non HDD version to begin with

I don't mind the limit, I think it keeps devs in check so they don't eat up HD space with unnecessary stuff. And as mentioned, if they want to release extra content for free, that's their right.

Considering what some developers have achieved with the old 50MB limit, there isn't a lot of room to argue. But we'll argue anyway.

Microsoft needs to start selling the 160GB HD for 99 bucks and lift the XBLA limit to 250 or 300 megs. The hard drive space problem is only going to get worse as time goes on. The orginal 20 GB drive is already keeping me from buying HD movies and Xbox orginals.

Bonus packs seem like a happy medium. Either MS should let them offer the game at whatever size they want. (this game warrants any exception needed) Or they should just cut it up into peices and put each peice onto Live.

Lumines Live did this but I wouldn't say it worked out very well for them. The extra content they were asking you to pay for didn't really feel "worth it" and in the end the game ended up costing like $32 if you wanted the whole thing...

If the PS3 gets a signifcantly better version of this game I can see myself picking one up just for this...

I agree with nin on this. the size limit is smart MOST of the time, but for a game like this, MS should let em through.

Altho there IS a sneaky little way the devs could get this thru...anything they couldn't fit in the initial 150 megs could be put in as a free "bonus pack", available day 1. That way IF they could fit JUST the HD content into the 150 megs, they could make the original game a "free bonus download" for those who purchased the HD game.

Team17 pulled this exact same stunt with Worms HD. It came with 3 landscapes, and several more were available for free (altho a couple are pay ones).
