Spore To Be Delayed To Fall/Winter 2008? on Gamasutra has a release
prediction from Mike Hickey of Investment Bank Janco Partners, who says Spore is
delayed: "we now expect in [the second half of 2008], versus management guidance
for March/April." Take this for what you will, other recent predictions from
this analyst include things like
BioShock Is Coming to PS2, Wii, and handhelds, that
Take-Two Interactive will be acquired, and
not to
expect any further fallout from hot coffee "except on the officer side."

The "oh guys..just to soften the blow, we, ah, we've decided to make it more accessible so we're mentioning it early in this press release" from a month or two ago killed my interest.

I've been skeptical of this game from the get-go. It just sounds too ambitious. Like a Peter Molyneux game. I know Will Wright is a better Game Developer than Peter, but I just wonder if he's bitten off a little more than he can chew with this one. Still, I gotta admire the guy - he is a true visionary.

Spore has looked interesting, but I'm thinking more and more that I may not buy it
#1 because it's EA,
#2 Because it's being modified for financial rather than gameplay reasons,Because if you're right, than it's so very wrong. #3 The sims just isn't my kind of game. Spore has looked interesting to me because of the potential for violent creatures killing other creatures, recent ads for it have seemed dumbed down and made childsafe. Fuck that.

Actually, since this is EA. They are probably delaying it to add in more expansion possabilities.
Did you read the interview with Will Wright where he said they delayed the Sims a whole YEAR after it was ready for release simply tweaking the engine that let it be more expandable? They weren't adding content, just making sure they COULD add it in the future and sell it. And its paid off for them. They have an expansion every month it seems for sims.

The creator already said that Spore was complete and that it was going to be tweaked for 6 months to make it more fun. Therefore this delay doesn't sound very credible, though stranger things have happened.

I suspect the game is mostly complete, and they're working on the (very difficult) online portion. It's hard to get online content to work correctly.
