Crysis Patch Issues

The Crymod Modding Portal has a post about the just-released version 1.1 patch for Crysis, Crytek's first-person shooter. The patch has been causing problems for many users, and some have not been able to install it at all (thanks Ant). A few workarounds are described which have helped some folks get things going.

Actually, removing the startup movies doesn't seem to affect the patch. I had renamed all those files so that they didn't get loaded, and the patch still worked for me.

Um, I didn't have any problems whatsoever installing the patch. No disc inserted, no reinstalling, etc. I think the patch actually made my game run a little better too. The option to disable motion blur is also very nice.

Well the issues are 2 fold. 1) you need to put in the disc to patch. 2) if you have done anything to the game, removed the startup moves, added the tourney patch, or just looked funny at the Crysis folder the patch won't install.

I had to uninstall and reinstall to patch. Not to mention the patch itself is a resource hog and is slow to start.

People calm the hell down. Stop shitting on EA and Crytech for "patch errors" that are caused because people modified the install folder (because this is a reason for a bulk of the patch install issues).

Also adding that I put the intro movies back in their places and this patch worked fine (Vista 64).

Love the added improvements!

Hence why my patch failed. Repair reinstalled this component. Lame, why do I need Support folder? I got forums and Web sites.

The patches are probably handled by noobs ie junior devs freshly hired who did not write the original code and who do not test their shit properly.

Yes, but this is the same crappy patch development that FarCry had and CryTek blamed it on Ubisoft.

Not saying EA is absolved of responsibility here, but how is it that Crytek can make such grandiose games and have sooo much trouble with their post release patches?

First of all, the publisher especially EA sign off on patches they are supposed to pass through their QA department.

willing to bet that 90% of the issues are from early mod adopters. I know all I had to do was rename the video files to get it to work, as i'd previously diabled the endless product endorsement intro movies. I know it breaks the ragdoll mod, also...

Big whoop. You might have to choose "repair installation" from add/remove programs, wait a couple minutes, and *THEN* install the patch.

Wait a minute.... We're going to blame the publisher? EA doesn't have anything to do with the development or patch implementation.

An EA title that is having issues with a patch causing problems?!?!?!?!?! Hell has frozen over because this surely never happens - all QA departments associated with any EA title are top notch.

/sarcasm off

Fuck off EA - I hate you.
