Bah, Sims games are going to sell a ton no matter what (Pets got awful reviews supposedly.. *looks at gamerankings.com* holy crap did it ever), plus it's sold on almost all platforms. 3.5 million is what I saw for the first month of sales of BC, so I'd expect it to be more than that now. I think the impressive part is it does require a subscription to keep playing and it was also sold at around $40 at release (and a 91% gameranking.com ratio doesn't hurt either). Not everyone likes MMOGs and they certainly aren't for everyone, but in spite of that, Blizzard has created a monster. I expect the Lich King expansion to do just as well.
As for it lacking innovation and not being revolutionary, not many of the GoTY titles can be said to be revolutionary either. Even Ray mentioned portal was a variant of Prey.
