Today is the Winter Solstice around these parts, making it the shortest day of the year, and kicking off winter. For a while there it looked like we might still have fall-like conditions at this point, but last week's snowstorms fixed that, though the last few frozen leaves are still dropping off some of the trees. Anyway, I find early winter sunsets to be a downer, so I'm always glad to mark the occasion of turning the corner towards longer stretches of daylight again.
