This reminds me of the Hellgate arguments......They're not taking anything away from free accounts, they're just giving "perks" to the paying ones.....

I don't know what's the big deal about paying $50 for a year actually for 13 months of live access. That's not even $4 a month for live. I play a lot online and for me it is well worth it.

I don't feel like there are many Live games that warrant that kind of fee to be honest.

I've had a gold membership for a while and besides Chromehounds I can't think of a game that made me happy to pay the gold membership fee. Once my membership runs out I'm going to buy 1 month cards and use them only when I want to play a new game online. (That i rented of course because buying 360 never turns out ot be a good investment for me...)

For $50 a year it is unreasonable to not offer servers. The online games on the 360 are handicapped by needing to use pier to peir connections. So many games offer 4v4 team play or 8 ppl in FFA. I think Halo goes up to 16, COD4 goes up to 18, and I don't think anyone is higher than that.

And new games with a lot of people playing seem to cause havoc on LIVE, COD4 and HALO3 both had lag issues right after release which would be fine on a free network but what the hell are we paying for when you can't even get the games running well even after you had am open beta for BOTH of those games?!

I for one am not talking about that, I'm talking about the intellectual insult from nelson. You as the reader or the player should feel insulted.

That this guy has the nerve to imply that silver was made worse for some reason OTHER THAN to inconvenience people into buying gold... should be insulting to you.

DrEvil are you dense?

Lets offer demos to everyone for a wile then, nope! No gold, you get delayed a week! Thats BS. Until MS starts running dedicated servers for the games you can play on live there is no damned point in paying for it. Your paying for a bloated buddy list and thats all. Something I have said sinse live came out on the original XBox. This also ranks up there with theses stupid as shit FilePlanet subscriber exclusive demos.

Why the shit do you have to pay more (on top of your ISP cost) to play a game online that YOU have to host?

Like people have already said. I though demo's were another marking tool for games. With how demo's come out now (at launch and in most cases lately after launch) why would you want to delay people getting their hands on it even more.

The only thing I can figure is MS thinks that you need to pay for their bandwidth because there is almost no other way to get demos for consoles. Unlike computer demos where many sites can mirror it.

Same reason file planet does limited time exclusive demo access all the time, and artificially capped download speeds for the 'free access' in any number of websites out there. Everyone still gets it, silver just get it a week or so later. It's not limiting the audience, it's just a tool to get silver people to upgrade. If you don't play games online there is no reason to get gold. If you do play online the 'service' is well worth it.

holy fuck he stabs people and then has the nerve to say he isnt stabbing people?

he literally says that there is a new arbitrary time limit on free access

and then he says that it is to benefit gold member service

and then he says it is not to inconvenience silver service

that he has the nerve to say these things in public disgusts me and I hope the xbox generation isn't retarded enough that they don't see this and post a flurry of complaints for being treated like infants.

Because only a small child wouldn't understand what is going on here. If I put nelson's two paragraphs in front of 200 commerce undergrads, every single one would say that they are making the silver service worse to induce people into paying for the gold service.

That's classic Microsoft short-sightedness...they think it'll be an easy cash grab...

Comedy genius:

“This is not done to annoy our Silver members,” he adds. “Limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Gold Xbox Live account.”

Er...it looks like the entire point is to irritate the "Silver" members enough to get them to pay for the "Gold" version.

And I'm sorry, but I still see no reason to pay for Live. To build the community and push advertising/demos, it should be completely free. Relative to the PC market or just the general internet as a whole, it has a good decade of advancements to go. Heck, even my Wii is more enjoyable experience - it's free, it's wireless out of the box, and it has a significantly better back catalog.
The Wii's online effort still sucks, but I've used it far more.
Never bothering to go online with my 360,
Ray

This makes no sense to me. The point of a demo is to, presumably, encourage people to buy the full game. Why, then, would you ever intentionally limit the number of people who could use such demo?
