Warmonger Free Game Released

The Warmonger: Operation Downtown Destruction Website now features the release of the free full version of this first-person shooter developed by those devils at NetDevil. Here's word on the game and how it can take advantage of an AGEIA PhysX card, which is recommended, but not required: "NetDevil today announces the launch of the much anticipated, next-generation FPS game Warmonger, Operation: Downtown Destruction. Available now for free download, Warmonger pushes the limits of destruction technology where game environments can be shaped and manipulated by players at will. Taking full advantage of AGEIA’s PhysX card combined with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 (UE3), the powerful game mechanics combine high performance action and stunning fluid and cloth effects that reflect the cutting edge of gaming visuals and physics today." The full game can be found on this page, and the 437 MB download is mirrored on AtomicGamer, ComputerGames.ro, FileFront, and Gamer's Hell.

I thought I'd give this a shot. 2GB ballistic tracer ram, q6600, 8800GT.

At the highest settings it's a slideshow that looks rather poor. At the lowest settings it's a slideshow that looks like a game from 1993.

I do not have a PPU, so it's no surprise. But I'm concerned that the game looks rubbish even at the highest settings (regardless of framerate). Crysis is a slideshow on very high, but at least it looks good.

the performance is 10X as bad on this as their last free game "Cell Factor".
I' pretty sure Netdevil didn't do Cell Factor.

I'm glad PhysX is dying a quick death if this is all they can do with it.

DX11 = built-in physics, GPUS are coming with dedicated physics PPU's... PhysX is dead.

And Intel bought Havok.

PhysX bah waste of money.

Didn't Savage long ago come out with a PPU or something similar?

Are you running an AGEIA PhysX card?

The free games don't "require" an AEGIA PhysX card and will run...but the whole point of the free games is to show off the extra physics that having their card will render.

As I learned with Cell Factor, there is no point in even trying them without the PhysX card.

If a PhysX card will help Crysis run better...I'd buy one, or ask for one for Xmas.

I played this yesterday in a supposed "open beta" with 4gigs of Ram, Core 2 duo e6750 and a Geforce 8800GTS 640mb and it ran like a slideshow even at its lowest settings.

Both games look like good ideas on paper but in practice I don't see how Ageia will get anything other than bad press from it.
