I'm not the biggest fan of forced class systems

I'd like to see more classes like in CPMA NTF. They give you a few bonuses or penalties, to assist you in the role, but it's not nearly as forced as TF and its kin.

I guess Tribes really had the same kind of system, too.

I'm not the biggest fan of forced class systems. Forcing a player to play a certain class and limiting the weapons and items they can use really hurts the potential depth of a game. I'm much more in favor of dynamic classes that stem from what players actually do in the game, as opposed to what pre-defined classes force them to do.

Seems to work extremely well for Team Fortress 2 though...

Bhruic are you kidding? Those maps are big! It isn't Tribes 2 but still those maps are vast compared to the tiny maps in CoD4. Did you play all the warfare maps? Some are bigger than others

Compared to CoD4? What does that have to do with anything? Warfare is an evolution of Onslaught. Onslaught maps, on average, were bigger than the Warfare maps are (and yes, I've played them all). More specifically, however, we were "promised" that Warfare maps would be huge, sprawling affairs. They didn't deliver.

Playing three maps in a row, and having every round end in less than 3 minutes does not make for a fun game.

I think people are looking for a more rigid class system, where everyone has a defined objective, rather than roles arising from function (say a defender, flag-harasser, midfielder, etc)

I thought TF2 was boring as hell. All they did was give 1 Q3 weapon to each "Class" and said "there's your team play."

Thats like taking a rally game give each player control over one function of the car and calling it team based game play.

"Bob you are in charge of steering. Joe you can break and Frank you get the gas."

I must say, I'm greatly disappointed with this game. I expected the "Warfare" mode to have much bigger maps than it turns out to have. The biggest is barely the size of some of the medium-large maps from Onslaught. And the "orb", while I nice gimmick, tends to lead to some really lopsided matches.

My only hope at this point is that the maps are so small because of the PS3, and that when fan mappers have a chance to make some, they can surpass that limitation.

All FPS games require teamwork unless it's FFA deathmatch. UT3 ctf and warfare require teamwork as well.

Certainly so. Q3 TDM with a good team is an amazing experience. I think people are looking for a more rigid class system, where everyone has a defined objective, rather than roles arising from function (say a defender, flag-harasser, midfielder, etc)

Does anyone know how to reduce the in game menu volume? It's sound loud that it seems to clip and gets all distorted when I navigate through the menus. They allow you to adjust other volume just not the menu volume. I'm talking about the ut3 demo.

And yes m00zilla, the game is a ton of fun, but I can only speak for myself obviously.

Uhh no, you have it the wrong way around. It is them appreciating US not us to appreciate them.

since I can't stand slow online shooters.
We need a good, proper sequel to remedy that situation.

I'll take any new game that's fast-paced and requires teamwork. I for one am sick of these pussies who play shit like Boringfield 2(142) and CS and can't stand a game that requires movement skills, aiming kills, AND teamwork.

I swear, it feels like they infect any game that has teams with their whining about speed, and their desire to take a dump in some bushes waiting a few hours for a kill like it's Deer Hunter.

But I'm just bitter.

I love my TF2.
But yes Tribes 1/2 combined fast gameplay and teamwork heavy in one.

So I hear it is good... but is it better than TF2?

Very different games. UT3 is high-speed, twitch galore. TF2 is slow as molasses but with a greater emphasis on teamwork. I'm more inclined towards the UT3 side of things, since I can't stand slow online shooters.

Actually, I'm more inclined towards Tribes, since it is still the fastest and most teamwork-heavy shooter out there. Unfortunately, its community isn't what it used to be. We need a good, proper sequel to remedy that situation.

Grateful for a patch. UT3 is a very good game. I've been learning the Unreal Engine 3 editor and it's mind boggling how complicated is this game. This game is a huge accomplishment for old-school FPS fans, IMO. The level design is wonderful. I'm glad they did vehicle CTF, CTF, team deathmatch, warfare, deathmatch, etc.. These are nice to add to the variety that is UT3. The new patch log mentions spectator and I hope they provide an eyecam as well as some other more sophisticated specatating.

I've been learning the UE3 editor because I want to make a game like Dungeon Master (1987 game). Both Bioshock and UT3 have elements that inspire me to make a RPG.

I would like to see them use the new engine to remake the original Unreal.

Yes and hopefully they could make it not suck like unreal 2 did.

Its probably safe to say this may be the last iteration of the series before Epic has to do some drastic re-imagining of the UT brand.

I would like to see them use the new engine to remake the original Unreal.
