Dead Rising PC and Lost Planet Add-on Plans?

TGMOnline reports they've received indications that a PC edition of Dead Rising, the popular console zombie game, is in development as well as Colonies, an expansion for Lost Planet, the space combat game. This unconfirmed report is based on a slip by Halifax, the Italian distributor for Capcom, and in that vein, the report is in Italian.

That stupid, STUPID 30 minute special that the Sci Fi channel ran for the game. I don't think my excitement for a game has ever killed more.

At least it was only 30 minutes, try watching Wombat from CAGcast play it on UGO http://gamesblog.ugo.com/index.php/gamesblog/more/cheapyd_and_wombat_play_the_first_hour_of_mass_effect_with_video/

But you know what did help? That stupid, STUPID 30 minute special that the Sci Fi channel ran for the game. I don't think my excitement for a game has ever killed more. Still want it, of course. But now I can wait the year or two it takes for the port. Long enough to forget that...special.

I forgot to watch it. That bad, huh?

you and me both. Unfortunately I don't think I can hold out. The game looks too good.

I too would like an earlier-than-normal Bioware announcement of a PC port. And that typical-for-Mass Effect awesome commercial they keep showing doesn't help.

Dead Rising was one of the games I was going to get if I ever had the time for 360 games. Here's hoping for a good port.

to be honest Dead Rising is the only recent console game which made me think whoah cool! so lets hope they don't screw up the port but they probably will

As for that save idea, if console people can handle it (and theyre a bunch of noobs) then I'm sure us die hard pc gamers will cope no sweat. Are you all forgetting the old days of games which no saves? yes thats right games never used to have saves! you die, tough luck start from the beginning bitch haha.

Oh yea so much for console exclusive titles, gears of war 360 exclusive? now dead rising what will be next. This just goes to prove once again that money talks and bullshit walks.

In fact one of the very first missions where you need to shoot at a guy on top of the food court signs is so frustratingly annoying I was ready to return the game right then and there. And as far as I know shooting him is the only way to attack him.

Nope.

If you go to the far end of the food court stalls that he's hiding on, you can use some barrels to get up there and get all stabby on him with the katana (although I find that once you're up there, blasting him with the uzi is still more effective since you have a perfect shot).

You need to be quick getting up there though, since he'll start lobbing grenades if you take too long, which can make things .... tricky

I got a free 360 elite back in August and bought Dead Rising for it...

I'm frustrated with the controls.

Liking Mass Effect so far but I'm frustrated with the menus and their controls.

The 360 version of Katamari (can't remember the name) is the only game that doesn't make me yell out in frustration "DAMN CONSOLES!"

News Flash:

Console controllers are a bitch. I don't know how I ever thought they were fluid as a kid. Oh wait, we had 2d games back then...

Anytime you want to throw something with an aimed trajectory or need to fire a gun or gun like weapon [golfing, frisbees, ball launchers, whatever] you need to aim in a over the shoulder with a reticle type way.

In that case, the port better have proper mouse aim.

Luckily, I don't think Dead Rising requires that you aim (though I may be wrong)

You are. Anytime you want to throw something with an aimed trajectory or need to fire a gun or gun like weapon [golfing, frisbees, ball launchers, whatever] you need to aim in a over the shoulder with a reticle type way. In fact one of the very first missions where you need to shoot at a guy on top of the food court signs is so frustratingly annoying I was ready to return the game right then and there. And as far as I know shooting him is the only way to attack him. So there I am slowly drifting a reticle with thumb sticks over a slow moving man who frequently stands still and it's still difficult. I figure that part on PC will take no more than 45 seconds.

Another frustration is the lack of a proper inventory for non attack type items. Oh god, I just love it when I'm swinging a bat or something, it breaks, and the next item automatically pops up and it's a book so I automatically start reading it while zombies tear me apart.

Oh God no Meatforce. The dead rising save system is totally borked.

Nah. It's strict, to be sure -- and probably unnecessary as well.. but I've played through that game four times now starting with a level 1 character, and the save system works just fine.

The thing about Dead Rising is that the game is built around a design philosophy that actually expects and rewards replaying it. That concept trips a lot of people up, and understandably so -- we're used to playing a narrative story straight-through from beginning to end with little repetition, so the concept of re-doing sections until we've mastered them is unfamiliar.

But this game is actually designed to get easier the more you play sections and work out the most efficient way through.. if you die, you still keep your XP, so you'll have that much of an easier time getting through there the next time.. and - I really can't stress this enough - there are LOTS of places to save your progress, and they're never that far away once you know where to find them (which is another product of having played through areas repeatedly).

Once you hit about level 25 or 30 (there are 50), it is really very hard to get yourself killed as long as you think about what you're doing and don't go into a situation without at least a bit of a plan.. at level 50, you're nearly impossible to kill unless you totally fuck up.

Seriously -- I understand why people complain about the save system, but they really don't need to. It absolutely works 100% just fine.

Luckily, I don't think Dead Rising requires that you aim (though I may be wrong) so I don't have any problem using a gamepad with it. RE4 was a travesty, though.

If this is true, hopefully Capcom uses their whole ass when they do the port.

Capcom are notoriously bad at porting ANYTHING to PC. Resident Evil 4 should've been sheer joy to play with a mouse but it sucked so bad I had to fight Best Buy to take it back. Lost Planet was the same. Thank god I played both games on console and got to enjoy them. Not only was the mouse support was abysmal but the performance was crap as well.

I wouldn't hold my breath that the PC port of DR will be anything other than par-for-the-course.

Oh God no Meatforce. The dead rising save system is totally borked. It was universally slammed in reviews. It totally killed the game unless you don't mind redoing 15-20 minutes of game play each time you die. I'm sorry, but when a company suggests you buy another memory unit for the 360 in the manual so you can have more than one save game you know they totally fucked it up.
