Big Daddy Replacements

The Cult of Rapture has word on the replacement program for the fragile Big Daddy figurines with the BioShock Limited Edition, including word that some folks will not have to send in their broken big daddies:
Earlier this morning I sent out an email blast to enrolled customers who received a broken Big Daddy figurine with their BioShock Limited Edition detailing the status of the replacement program. Since then, customer service has gotten many emails about the program, so I thought it would be best to lay out all the requirements for the public!

Customers who enrolled in our replacement program between August 25th and November 12th will not have to ship back their broken Big Daddies to us. We figure you had waited long enough for your replacements, so within the next two weeks, we’ll begin shipping out both the new Big Daddies and the artbooks in the same package to you. Keep your first Big Daddy – super glue him back together, or stage him next to your new Big Daddy as if they were in an epic battle.

And for more details about the program beyond what I have announced, so here’s a quick FAQ that I think will solve most people’s remaining questions.

Read the BioShock Figurine Replacement Program FAQ.

I also played through without hitting a single bug major or minor.

Very classy move replacing a defective figurine and I applaud them.

But in the light of not having released a single patch in all this time it is a bit ridiculous.

I also played all the way through Bioshock without hitting any bugs - significant or otherwise.

Really? I ran into a lot of clipping and pathfinding bugs. Those little helicopter bots would get stuck all the time.

Oh yea completely forgot about the keyboard binding problems. I sorta worked around it, but since Im one of those people that has their controls set differently and it won't let me rebind R (Jump for me), simply because they don't want you to (even though you have rebound what it was set to)...dumb.

And if I recall from the demo...rebinding the "use/pickup" key would rebind but it wouldn't actually work.

I only played the demo, but it randomly crashed to desktop after about ten minutes of playing. I believe I've been able to resolve any game issues if it was on my side and didn't require a patch but nothing worked for me.

Maybe I'll give it another go now that a few driver update cycles have passed because I really want to try this game.

You know, they might also fix the glaring bug (design bug more than technical bug, but makes it more or less unplayable for me) where you CANNOT BIND ALL KEYS ON YOUR KEYBOARD. They even tell you so in the manual. I mean, no, you cannot bind 'R' to move forward, even if you are used to use RDFG instead of WASD since DOOM, because... uhm, no, there really is no good reason for that.

If they don't have many/any problems other than the Widescreen problem, then even more reason why the patch should have been out within a week or two at the most.

Shitty support.

Shelved this long ago after a once threw it was okay but didn't hold my interest enough for a second go.

That and I ripped the nasty Sony CP they saw fit to install on my machine with out even so much as a warning? Oh and then some how forgot to include a uninstall program to remove the crap nice!

I had zero problems with this game, and it ran like a charm. If your old, shitty PC can't handle it, don't blame the game for it. It's one of the best games ever made. And I got the CE, and my figurine wasn't broken either.

I beat the game without a patch and didn't experience any significant issues. Bummer if you are - I know that is frustrating.

I was lucky and had no technical problems with the game, at all.

But yeah, Valve does appear to be the best when it comes to support...and they are only the best because they are the only ones doing anything!

But I wont play it until I can play with proper widescreen and I want to see if/when they will remove the activation, or if they were just blowing hot air about removing it.

Aye, not buying until they remove the limited activation bullshit and patch the game to have proper widescreen.

They said it was coming "shortly". It's been 3 months! Community widescreen fix was released days after release. No excuse for them to have taken this long for an official patch.

I've had the "full demo" installed, played the first 30min of the game to see if I wanted to shell out $$$ for it...and I do, so I haven't played it yet, and even uninstalled it a few days ago to free up 6gb. But 3 fucking months for a patch...ridiculous.

Between Epic, EA, Flagship, 2k, and Crytek...they are all making Valve look really bloody good right now. No showstopper bugs, but lots of fast patches for bugs I didn't even know existed and new content just around the corner.

People are having crashing, particularly in some sections of the game, plus it addresses the widescreen issue - not only that but the patch will hopefully coincide with the removal of the activation system. NEway, it played great for me without the patch, so it's only the widescreen fix that interests me (I've used the application that changes it but it's a PITA).

What other problems are people having?
I haven't noticed anything wrong with the game.....

Other than I suck at it and have to keep redoing certain parts cause I mess up and change my powers when I should not have.
