Right, because you have three guns held to your head forcing you to pay up? What the hell are you complaining about? About a game pushing the technical envelope? Would you rather see Nintendo Wii graphics on the PC for the next five years?
Here is where a screaming flamefest would ensue... but I'm not 12, and my handle's not CJ Parker. Nobody's forcing you, me, or Joe Sixpack to do anything, but the fact that Crysis won't run in an enjoyably playable fashion or look remotely like the trailers or screenshots on any more than 20% of new PCs sold does lead to the pointed implication that you need to shell out hundreds of dollars in order to enjoy one $50 game for about ten hours. But do you think the fact that Nvidia, Intel, and Microsoft have all advertised with Crytek, vigorously emphasized the benefits of their new tech with the developers, and prominently feature their logos in the unskippable pre-game advertising barrage might mean that some amount of money was exchanged? Especially since Crytek developers have continually harped on features that sound like they were cherry-picked by the above three companies?
I guess making a monster engine means you're now a corporate whore. Someone should update the game developers' wiki.
I just think the evidence speaks for itself. The farther the game industry gets from homebrewed content and the more money gets involved, the more of this kind of thing you'll see. Try not to let your ego get so wrapped up in this crap; it's a casual internet forum dedicated to the sharing of ideas and observations about video games. I didn't insult your life's work, I didn't call your family names, and I sure as hell don't have anything against you. Go enjoy your game.
