Hellgate at the Gate

Several updates to the Hellgate: London Website outline the flurry of activity surrounding Flagships new action/RPG. There's a general State of the Game update from Bill Roper outlining what went on with the game's launch and what's been done to remedy some of the associated issues. There's also a post outlining that the subscription system is back online, a post announcing the single-player patch is live and word the servers will be coming down for an update on November 5 outlining the new theme that will go live at that time. On the topic of the subscription system return, included in Bill's update is word that the Founder's Club offer will be extended to account for this downtime, and a further announcement on this topic will follow.

Let me guess: Win a date with Bill Roper.

Have fun with that...

I wouldn't mind that... get a chance to drag him in an alley and beat the living snot out of him for trying to steer the PC Gaming Industry into the spyware, adware, phone-home-ware industries AND also Pay for the "privilige" of these things through a subscription model.

I'd also love to smack anyone that has subscribed to this game for helping support such a dangerous "precedent" of what a consumer is willing to accept.

Oh well... PC gaming is about dead anyway... subscription models, in-game ads, activation and rootkit copy protection, artificial forced upgrades (hardware and OS), etc. etc.

Way to kill off your customer base, dudes!

Get your games from GOG DAMMIT!

Probably to make it non-specific to pre-orders. As I mentioned in one of the other threads, seems pretty stupid to make Lifetime Subscription offer for pre-orders only after the game has been released.

Gee I have never heard anyone say that before over the last 5 or more years.

According to people like you PC gaming died years ago.

PC Gaming has always been dieing and something has always come along to save it. To be honest, I don't think it's dieing at all. It's just that console games are becoming incredibly popular these days so, relatively, it seems as though PC gaming is dieing.

I thought PC gaming was dieing in the mid nineties, I thought it was dieing in the late nineties, I thought it was dieing in the earlier part of this decade and I thought it was dieing just a couple years ago. Yet it's still here. It always seems particularly dire near the beginning of a new console-generation, but it always comes back again.

Not to mention production budgets are bigger than ever although they're dwarfed by console production budgets. There are also still a lot of small PC-gaming outfits, something consoles are lacking due to royalties and expensive development kits.

There's no point in predicting the death of PC gaming. Only time will tell.

Love,
Aero

...and you don't think some of thats not coming to console games?

By the next generation of consoles there will be a move towards merging the platforms to take advantage of digital distribution and that includes the PC. Having to make several different SKU's along with the marketing and money needed to support a dedicated platform is becoming prohibitive.

Boring shit I'd like to add. Well, if this was a game from some new dev, i would say: "Nice try, much potential, next game from this dev might be great!"

But looking at the credits i just say: "Wtf? What is this? Am i supposed to buy this crap? I expexted some great game from you guys. But not this ..."

this was never as much of a game as it was a marketing experiment.. from its conception to completion it spoke more of "making money" than "entertainment"

easy to see how its not really super fun to play - thats not the focus

as someone who grew up with video games, this particular "game" is more of an insult than anything else.. so likewise, the whole dev team can shove it up their ass

Cry cry cry

Despite the whiners and asshats on these forums and comment posters that will attack this game constantly, it is a great game. Played it all weekend with some friends from my WoW guild and this game does indeed kick ass. Ignore the pompous buffoons on this site and if you think you will like the game, pick it up. Its a great time especially when you group and frag shit

Oh you grew up "with video games"?

Well, aren't you special, that must have been hard. Yup I guess you are the expert then. I mean NONE of us here grew up with video games.

Right now there are only 8 but there will be more and that will give a better indication of the quality of the game.

i take the pc gamer (US not UK) review with a huge grain of salt. these are the same guys who think that shadowrun is a fun game.
