TF2, Portal, and Steam Patches

Valve announces a Steam client update, another Steam client update, a Portal Update, a Team Fortress 2 Update, and another Team Fortress 2 Update, all, of course, automatically available from within Steam. Most significant is the first TF2 patch, which includes several fixes and tweaks, including anti-bunny hopping code.

It would make the already over powerful spy - even more ridiculous.

Yea, seems most people that want friendly fire turned on all seem to follow that up with mention of wanting it so the Spy's won't be the recipient of random friendly fire.

God forbid any of these folks ever design their own games.

Have to agree with you Sponge on the Friendly Fire comment... it truly would change the whole "spy game" if/when that happens... Here's hoping.

Bring back bunny-hopping? Have you even noticed a change in the game? Probably not. Nobody else has. Chances are it was something only exploiters had discovered and required perfect timing to accomplish. Asking for something back that you never used and probably didn't even know existed is simply childish.

Exactly. Had to have been an exploit - no difference is noticed.

Great, TF2 is being turned into another Counter-Strike

Translation...Sponge is still bitter about friendly-fire being disabled in TF2.

Bunny-hopping, strafe-jumping, rocket jumping, grenade jumping. All were exploits in the first TF/Quake, but somehow, despite all 4 being physics exploits, half of those examples were removed in TF2 for no rhyme and reason. That just doesn't make sense.

Actually they only removed one. Bunny-hopping. Grenade jumping is still there, just the demoman has it. He can still use it to jump other people if he wants.

This is not TF/Quake. Stop bitching about TF2 and play Fortress Forever for FF, nade spam, large maps, steroid speed movement, medics with plague, etc, etc.

Bring back friendly fire, and now apparently, bunny-hopping

If you want your team to win, especially when it comes down to Sudden Death rounds, you need medics...nuff said.

I play whatever the team needs...

And when I play Medic the team wins.

A good medic takes cover appropriately, befriends the best offensive killer, and keeps that killer updated if enemies are approaching from out of his sight.

First thing I do when I become medic is look for the highest scoring soldier/heavy/demo/pyro and make it clear to them [not always verbally] that if they continue to perform they won't ever be without a medic. That killer takes priority and I only heal others if he's in safe spot, fully healed, or dead.

Don't you just hate it when the guy you're healing knowingly runs to a medic pack and picks it up while being healed. THAT MEDIC PACK IS FOR THE MEDIC WHO CAN'T HEAL HIMSELF.

Or the worst one is seeing a scout use a teleporter thus wasting it for the slow guys.

Medic is boring as hell. I don't care how useful it is, I delegate "less skilled" players on a team to medic duty. Same with defense engineers.

I am usually on offense, but if the team needs a medic, I man up and take it - and then we win.

TF2 = best team shooter ever. And yes, I play medic more than anything, followed by pyro next. Medic is a great job if you understand what teamwork means. And, uh, that' precisely what TF2 is all about.

Sponge is Quake-war fanboy....he can't tolerate any game that might interfere or compete against his precious little game.

Fanboy is more overused than the word Nazi. Nice to see you've used about a quarter of your posts attacking me, when probably a good tenth or 20th of my posts are me being an asshole.

I just like having advanced movement in my games. If another Quake game were to get released, I'd drop ET:QW than your mom drops her panties (o snap i went there). The Counter-Strike comment was me being a dick, nothing more, as CS for HL1 went down the "removing anything that's not shooting on flat ground" path too, early on in it's life.

Bunny-hopping, strafe-jumping, rocket jumping, grenade jumping. All were exploits in the first TF/Quake, but somehow, despite all 4 being physics exploits, half of those examples were removed in TF2 for no rhyme and reason. That just doesn't make sense.

I'm still more than happy with my purchase of the Orange Box, it just so happens that the game I was expecting to enjoy the most ended up being the least after the new-ness wore off. Bring back friendly fire, and now apparently, bunny-hopping and I'll be back to pubbing TF2 every once in a while.

People take my insults far too seriously here.

pfft - I LOVE IT! I have the most time in that class, it is hella fun. Can save the team, ube rto multiple people during that phase, protect the offense and be rewarded with thanks and points.

I'm curious too as to how TF2 has become another Counter Strike? That doesn't make any sense to me Sponge.

**shrug**

I'm having a blast with it, every night. Well worth the 8 or so years we waited for it... YES HUNTED!!! that would pwn if they released it... some of the best times were on that map.

Sentry gun needs a nerf. That thing takes little effort to put up, and it rewards you in spades. IMO games should make the most powerful things the most difficult to use. Weak things should be super easy to use. Sentry gun is super powerful and easy to use. And the Medic is very boring to play, and yet so necessary to all the teams I've been on. I think it would be great if the Medic got a "heal aura" type ability. Something that would let the Medic heal people at a slower rate, but let them focus on fighting more. I just don't find holding the left mouse button and following some around to be particularly exciting.

Sad thing is.. I've made most of this complaints 10 years ago in TFC. Wish Valve had changed the formula a lot more...

About this anti bunny hopping code... How exactly does that work because I can't see a difference between jumping before the patch and after the patch.
I read something about bunny hopping backwards not being prevented, so that might be it. Forward bh didn't wokr pre-patch as far as I know, seems to be a cap on speed. This should now leave TF2 without any kind of advanced movement whatsoever.
