Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific - U-Boat Missions

Ubisoft announces U-Boat Missions, an add-on for Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific, the submarine combat sim:
SAN FRANCISCO – October 31, 2007 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that Silent Hunter®: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions, an add-on to the critically acclaimed Silent Hunter®: Wolves of the Pacific submarine simulation, will be available for PC in spring 2008. Developed by Ubisoft Romania, the add-on will allow players to prowl the Indian Ocean as the captain of a German submarine.

Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions extends the gameplay experience of Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific by focusing on the historically accurate but largely unknown German U-boat campaign in the Indian Ocean during World War II. U-Boat Missions offers players a variety of new features and content including an entirely fresh and innovative strategic element, new playable submarines, an improved navigation map, improved upgrade system, and more. Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions is an essential addition for any simulation fan.

Key Features:

    • German Campaign in the Indian Ocean: The new campaign spans from July 1943 until end of war, in May 1945. Players will operate from such far-off Japanese naval bases as Penang, Singapore, Jakarta and Surabaya.
    • Strategic Warfare: As the player rises in rank and experience he gains access to new strategic resources, such as recon aircraft that track down enemy shipping and even battle groups that can help wipe out superior enemy forces.
    • New Playable Submarines: Take to the seas in the long-range Type IX-D2 U-boat and the revolutionary Walther propulsion type XVIII U-boat. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of these boats and how you can overcome even elite, late-war allied destroyers with high-speed hit-and-run attacks.
    • Heroes: Based on actual historical figures, these new crewmembers add a number of special abilities that can change the fate of battle and save the ship when the time is right, as well as adding historical color to the game.

True, it doesnt diminish the add on, however they realized that people prefer playing German Uboats rather than US subs... too bad they realized that late.

As for this expansion... sounds like sh3 using sh4 engine plugged into pacific in those few rare missions that actually occured during war...

A number of the planes in IL2: 1946 never saw combat or even made it off the drawing board. That doesn't diminish the add-on.

I also think the increased functionality and content that comes with this add-on will give the modders more to work with.

There are plenty of major issues with this game. I am glad 1.4 patch is planned to finally fix the sinking of ships by just ramming them with your sub. If that's not a major issue(patch is not out yet) then damn I don't know what is...

I have been playing this for about a year & it's really good. There are really no major issues with the game. And the MOD community for this game is HUGE. You can download TONS of great mods that add better graphics, better animations, gameplay changes, etc. If you enjoy sim games this is a winner!

Oh man, oh man oh man. This will be excellent if they can fix up the major issues people still have with the game. That last patch that came out surprised me since it indicated that work was still being done with the game, so this shouldn't be as much of a surprise as it is.

But still, color me surprised.

Actually bought the first game (wanted something different and never had a Sub-Sim before), but last time I checked their forums the first game still has some very large outstanding problems?

I guess my issue with the game is all the missions were random and you could end up with the same mission up to 5 times in a row.
