More Hellgate: London Subscriber Details

The Hellgate: London Website has a post with a general outline of what is described as the "TONS of new content for subscribers" to Flagship's coming action/RPG (thanks Voodoo Extreme), saying paying subscribers will get access to additional weapons, monsters, and even character classes, among other things. This additional subscriber content is one of the topics in the Q&A with Bill Roper on Shacknews, an article-format conversation about premium content, as well as changes being made to the game based on feedback from the beta.

Hmm see theres a demo anyone play it?

Few of us have. Demo sucked badly. At level 5, the game just stops offering content. It doesn't say it's over, it just kinda fizzles out. The map/quests aren't very good either.

I was a bit surprised by the suckage of the demo, so I gave the beta a try. Much different experience. I only made it to level 10 before they nuked the characters, but I enjoyed it quite a bit more. Felt like a totally different game. Nonetheless, they only allow 3 characters online unless you pay them extra. And that's pure horse-shit. There's 6 classes, so you can't make one of each. FSS designed a decent enough game, and then got shitfaced and raped it their last few decisions.

Edit: my tag abilities suck

Just please, for the love of all that is holy, STOP whining.

Oh, I'm sorry shill, I didn't realize that we've been annoying you in the entire 2 seconds that you've been here. Seriously, is Flagship that worried about us, that you're now the SEVENTH fucking shill to show up? Along with Max Whatshisface?

Pre-orders not really rolling in? Funny how that happens when you try to rape your customers.

It's always funny to me how people whine about whining.
I love the irony and the hypocrisy.

Ripperjk1, I am with you on stopping the whining about the game. But the whining will continue in regards to the business model.

In the near future, I'm sure any and every game ever released on the PC will be published by EA, the way they're buying everything up. If this business model succeeds because of Hellgate London, all future EA titles will be designed in the exact same way. Incomplete, forcing you to subscribe to something. They'll do it, in every game, in every genre.

Hellgate London is incomplete in the sense that any non-subscriber will constantly be berated with information about all the extra stuff. The non-subscriber will enjoy the game less because they know they're missing out on stuff, thus the game feels incomplete.

Thats my two cents anyway. The success of this game means the eventual shaft in all our asses for most if not all PC games in the future.

You get an entire single-player compaign and a basic multiplayer component with the game. If you want even more then you can subscribe. Makes sense to me.

what does not make sense is their sad excuse for a single player campaign. the game was designed to be multiplayer from the beginning. and so goes the ruse they made up with adding subscription only content.

I'd pay at most $5/month for an 'evolving' diablo like game. Not paying MMO size fees for something that isn't. Game sucks anyhow so it's an easy choice.

I really hope that the extra content gets ripped out and put up for downloading by pirates.

This whole pricing scheme is abysmal.

They arent features if they werent in the game to begin with. *shrug*

Theres nothing wrong with trying a new type of sub model. The video game business IS a business afterall. These guys do need to make cash - and they want to make as much as they can, like anyone.

I hope this game dies a quick death, and takes it's subscription model with it. Whoever came up with the idea of intentionally leaving features out and then asking you to pay extra for them needs to have the shit beaten out of them...

Q : When will it get here?

A : Sometime in the future.

Q : How long in the future?

A : We're not sure. Keep paying that 10 bucks a month, and you'll find out!
