More Hellgate: London Subscriber Details

The Hellgate: London Website has a post with a general outline of what is described as the "TONS of new content for subscribers" to Flagship's coming action/RPG (thanks Voodoo Extreme), saying paying subscribers will get access to additional weapons, monsters, and even character classes, among other things. This additional subscriber content is one of the topics in the Q&A with Bill Roper on Shacknews, an article-format conversation about premium content, as well as changes being made to the game based on feedback from the beta.

Agreed, "I hope this POS sinks faster than the Titanic" also.

They have the gall to state that we are adding additional content such as new classes, ect.. This content should be included in the original price of the game in the first place. That statement is currently a promise not even a fact. Furthermore, iv'e seen other MMO's promise this (Dungeon and Dragon's Online) for months, and it never happened (or well after the game was released).

So, if your trying to market the game with additional regular content updates, market the game as a damn MMO, shoot, your basically going to charge customers for the price of one.

I was excited about the game when I first heard about it over a year ago, but now I can give a rats ass after hearing the pricing model. What a scam.

Tough decision for sure, I can see this game being fun in a co-op mode but it's hard for me to support this greedy pricing model (even though I will keep the $10 in my pocket regardless) on the other hand. Decisions, decisions.

I'm in the same boat. I actually enjoyed the beta after getting to the second hub, but I hate their pricing model. If one of my friends ends up buying it, I probably will as well, but there's no way I'll subscribe to it.

I didn't originally like the Beta but gave it one last shot over the weekend (EU Beta) and went much further then my first play session. I have to admit that it does get more fun once you get around level 6 or so. The battles get a bit more hectic and the weapons (I played Marksman) get more fun to use. The game DOES remind of Diablo to a 'T'. I thought it was interesting to see the ravengers (-sp) jumping around in 3D after seeing them in Diablo 1 and 2 in 2D, it actually kind of freaked me out the first time one jumped at me, wasn't quite expecting that. I found the graphics to be great in some areas (underground tunnels looked good IMHO) and horrible in others, maybe they toned down the graphics in some areas (bigger open areas) to handle many peeps with many MoBs, not sure.

I may pick this game up to play co-op with my friends, just not enough co-op games anymore and this one looks like it would be a good frag fest with 4 other peeps. This game reminds me of a mixture of the Diablo series and Doom series where you can get some fast paced action with people in a co-op fashion.

Having said all this, I think the pricing model is HORRIBLE. Dev houses like ArenaNet have proven that you don't need to charge a subscription fee and then on top of that force customers to see ads regardless of how well they blend into the enviornment. So even if I and my peeps decide to buy and play this I will not support the subscription model.

Tough decision for sure, I can see this game being fun in a co-op mode but it's hard for me to support this greedy pricing model (even though I will keep the $10 in my pocket regardless) on the other hand. Decisions, decisions.

Good response, space captain.

I have a slightly differing opinion of the game than the majority here, I think. For some reason I found the MP (beta) a bit addicting and fun. I won't play this game alone, but I will if my buddy picks it up.

On the subscriber content, I agree. While they're trying some new business model (and that's okay), we don't have to like it.

What sucks is if we actually buy/play the game, I would guess we'll eventually get sucked into subscribing for a few months.

Finally tried the demo.

Yup, just what the videos showed. Combat is, at best, a combination of a PS1 game and a MMORPG. Neither of those have particularly good combat. One is archaic, the other is played for reasons other than combat.
So this game isn't about combat. That means it's about being a lab rat and repeating the same dull process over and over in hopes of a new reward, ie weapon.

It's the heaping pile of crap that it's appeared to be ever since they started showing videos of it several E3s ago.

Such a shame. It was such an awesome premise and that initial CGI trailer they released was great.

This reminds me a lot of PlanetSide in that they kept promising new stuff was on the way for those who would just pay... er wait a bit longer, but the "money in" to "content out" ratio was skewed the wrong way.

"FloridaHoudini:
Generally doesn't happen with monthly paying stuff since you have to have an active subscription to enable stuff. Presumably even with the buy it once thing, its still checking to see that your CD key is valid, so I doubt that will happen.

For instance, you don't see much use for a cracked version of WoW do you? You still have to have a valid paid up account to play WoW, so all the crack does is get you the stuff on the retail cd, which can't be used.
Especially since blizzard shut down the alternative servers.

Note: I own WoW but havne't opened it, its too much of a time sink."

There are still many cracked WoW servers and clients out there FYI. Most don't offer teh full experience but some get rather close. Same deal for Lineage 2, Ultima Online and so on.

Because something like a hardcore mode, or a stash, is _such_ on non-expectable feature in a game made by the people who made diablo2...

I can no longer take Judeo-Christian themes seriously, even in gaming.

Demons? Crusaders? Apocalypse? We've got worse things to worry about: religious nuts!

"And don't forget the dynamic in-game ads, which you see whether you're a paying subscriber or not!"

They are a feature, they make the game more real!!!!1111

"Hmm see theres a demo anyone play it?"

Yeah I played it and was unimpressed. Its completely medicore verging on shit in all areas.

Some people on other forums posted the Beta was better. I tried that it was the same medicore game but with slightly more variety in enemies, weapons and environments (all the environments are sameish so not a huge +). To some thing sup: demo sucked, beta sucked less.

All signs point to an average game that I might have picked up just to bash around with my friends. I don't think its worth putting up with advertisements and I definitely not worth a subscription. Even my fan boy friend who rep-ordered and almost did the life time subscription thing is completely underwhelemed.

I bet the new classes they are adding are the 3 classes which were supposed to be included in the release version back before they announced the subscription.

edit: Im not even sure its worth pirateing unlesss some decent bootleg servers pop up

Seriously, how hard is it to make a game and sell a game. What happened to buying a box and owning the game inside. Why do we have to sign our names in blood to these new retarded subscription schemes. It seems that every press release from Flagship is loaded with extra rapage for prospective customers. A company couldn't be working harder to convince me not to spend my money.
