Kill General British

As noted on this page the call is out for recruits for the culmination of beta testing for Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa, and that Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa Beta Page is now issuing beta serial keys to the first 10,000 registrants. As it turns out, the beta wrap-up event featuring General British will indeed be about assassinating Richard Garriott’s in-game avatar as we joked when the event was announced (story), based on the assassination of then Lord British at the culmination of the Ultima Online beta, more than ten years ago. Word is:
A rogue team of Tabula Rasa agents will be playing and challenge you to take on General British himself on Friday 26th October 2007 from 19:00h to 21:00 h BST (20:00h to 22:00h CET). As always, stay vigilant… you never know what surprises lurk around the corner…

Do you have the guts to take down the man?

You're the reason guys like Jack Thompson exists and I find you shameful for saying such things.

I see it as SPIN pretty much. Consdering how annoyed RG and his team got with UO Beta assasination. To make it into an event is pretty much a 180. And yes I know how the single player games would let you kill LB; I am talking about the OSI response to Rainz/Aquaman/etc. in the early days of UO.

OSI- because at the time it was not EA's fault, it was pure Austin.

Heheh. I have to admit I occasionally think of us as a retirement home and last bastion for Quake(World) players... So how is anything supposed to compare, really? Negativity occasionally just has to happen.

Then again, I fondly remember the story about British being assassinated in UO just because it was one of those 'Woah, you can DO that? There was a crowd gathered?' realizations of the things that were being accomplished in MMOs... And whether the game turns out to suck or not, I think recreating this in Tabula Rasa is a nice touch.

I tell you what - if they let me ACTUALLY kill him - not some virtual avatar with his name being controlled by somebody else.

Then,

And ONLY then

Will I buy this game.

This is game was as much of a letdown for me as aoc and the witcher were surprises.

TR is a fun game for a few hours, but once it gets old, it really gets old. There's no reason for it to be an MMORPG, either.

As a single player game it would be fine for $30

how so? i said it looks good but thats it. whats up with that lightning power you get at first, its the most powerful spell in the game and they give it to you at level 1. next time you get a special move is at level 8 and only get to use it if you find the correct logos for it.

Even when you do get more moves they are not as good as that lightning strike they give you at the begining, and the constant purchase of ammo and the same bane creature spawns at the begining of the game and on to level 14 ? but its a good game lol YEAH RIGHT dont buy this and im sure alot of you know i like everything but this is not good.

At the time, everyone at Origin completely fucking freaked out over the whole thing, and Rainz was banned from the beta. Everyone argued on his behalf and you should have heard the little nazis prattle on about integrity of the Ultima franchise and all that bullshit. (since, you know, Ultima was always about ganking people just outside of Vesper...)

At least they can now laugh about it.

I agree, technically the game is great. Content wise, it sucks ass. Been in the beta for months and the whole story behind the game and missions/history etc is extremely boring.

The game mechanics would be perfect for a Shadowrun MMO, if they actually had a great team for quest/mission content. Visually it's really nice, about the best looking MMO out there technically.

But it suffers from the same issue every other NCSoft MMO out there, crap-tacular content.

I have been in the beta for a few months, and while it has some cool, novel things going for it, it is not at all fun or engrossing. I made it to around level 20 and I never gave a shit about the story, the war, or my character. I was just doing escort and kill missions x21231324 and getting meh loot.

I think if the game had another year of development, it might actually have some chance of a purchase from me, but considering it comes out in a week, there is not a chance in hell I am buying it. It is maybe 60% of what it could be.

After playing the beta, this is just about the most significant presence of Richard Garriott that I saw in the entire POS game. Whatever they want you to believe, it feels like he had about as much input as Tom Clancy in Rainbow Six.

you never know what shitty games lurk around the corner... indeed.

Edit: From now I'm going to make an asserted effort not to post these kinds of comments until I actually PLAY the game. I mean, yeah many of you played it, and you claim it sucks, but I've learned that video games are like ice cream flavors. You might love ROCKY ROAD but I prefer MINT CHIP. Both are good, but they are two totally different flavors.

So long and short I retract "you never know what shitty games lurk around the corner"

Well hopefully he's checked his 'god mode' in this beta. Wouldn't want to have him die again like he did in UO's beta

In any case - I hope Rainz does it again.
