MMO KOTOR?

Primotech has a story from Friday titled "BioWare’s Upcoming MMO Based in KOTOR Universe," which says just that, that BioWare's coming unnamed MMOG is based on Knights of the Old Republic, the highly regarded Star Wars RPG series. The report, said to be based on "a source close to BioWare," puts the game's release at some point during 2009. Thanks GameSpot, who ran this past their "rumor control" Magic 8-Ball and came up with one of those "Reply hazy, try again" answers.

Bioware has said time and again the game is based off their own IP. Why would they do a game based off KotOR when they didn't even want to do KotOR 2 because of a strained relationship with Lucasarts? That said, I do believe it is 'space based', perhaps based off the Mass Effect universe. Who knows.

Oh, and this better F*#&$ING NOT be a Console game. MMOGs are PC games, and Bioware has all but ignored their PC base on the last 4+ years. It's f'ing pathetic that they've been doing so. Sure we got a PC KotOR and Jade Empire, (TWO YEARS after the fact,) but can ANY PC cRPG player say with a strait face that either of these games didn't have console-itus, dumbed down features story-line and length. They were both good games with good stories told in typical Bioware fashion, but they PALED compared to the PC oriented releases of before Biowares relationship with M$.

I actually, for one, hope that EA having bought Bioware means at least that their games will see more (and faster, and less console-ized) PC releases. But it's a thin veil of a hope that I barely dare have.

But yea, if this is a console only MMOG. I'm going to be far far more pissed off at Bioware then I already am. Maybe a PC/Console release (that isn't to dumbed down and console-ized,) but if it's console only, gods help all PC cRPG fans, for an era will have ended. Cause Bioware will basically be saying 'you millions of PC fans better join the masses and buy a console, cause otherwise we simply don't give a f#^k about you anymore otherwise.'

If you have actually played 2142 you would know with the exception of Air vehicles it was head and shoulders better then BF2, especially in the infantry dept.

Yeah cause the Battlefield series, and Command and Conquer series are just utter crap, therefore you MUST BE RIGHT!
Well, BF2142 was a complete waste of the franchise and released too soon after BF2... so that's a good example of EA screwing people over (along with the booster packs). C&C3 was one of the games they did right - it surprised everyone.

And if Bioware can make a good MMO out of KOTOR Era, then they have my blessing, as it can't be any worse then KOTOR 2.

Don't worry, EA will find a way to screw it up to the point of it never actually releasing.

Or just ship it a year early.

I'd take the former. I would rather it never see the light of day than see what atrocity EA would commit.

Man, I can't believe I just said that. *weeps*

I have a bad feeling about this.

To me this is a terrible idea. It would mean no genuine conclusion to the KOTOR story arc, no engrossing, epic single player story KOTOR is known for, and, as someone else stated previously: EA + anything = CRAP. Recently I am sick and tired of all MMOs, so to see one of my most beloved RPG's shoved into a genre that is overcrowded and devoid of inspiration, published by a company I despise...well it just doesn't get much worse than that.

The day this is confirmed may be among the darkest in gaming history. Sigh....

Well an MMO is never "finished" the way KOTOR 2 was never finished. That's why there is an onging project to finis the game:

If this is true, the more then likely EA will not be the publisher for the game as they probably had some sort of contract with Lucasarts. If anything I'd put money that Microsoft would probably be the publisher.

That's why it will take 500 hours of game time to become a Jedi, or whatever number will hook people into monthly fees for as long as possible. Didn't they already do that with the last Stars Wars MMO?

Yeah, but...(don't you always love the yeah buts) KOTOR takes palce when the Jedi were plentiful and roamed the Galaxy. They were like cops, one one every corner. So given that the galaxy was lousy with Jedi, again, who'd want to play anything but one?

Well Bioware is still 'new' into the EA fold, so if history is correct their product's shouldn't be EA'ized until the 3rd or 4th release.

So even with EA in the picture, EA would be stupid to screw with the magic that Bioware+Starwars can make.
