Batten down the hatches! There are tornado watches throughout the heartland of the US today, with major cities like Chicago and Detroit in the path of the potential mayhem. This comes right on the heels of my newfound awe of severe weather systems, picked up by reading The Perfect Storm, which is a little dry (no pun intended) compared to the movie based on the book, but offers much more detail on the lifecycle of storm systems.
