BioShock Deactivation Tool

The Cult of Rapture now offers downloads of a tool to revoke the activation of BioShock on a PC (thanks Voodoo Extreme), addressing widespread concern over the anti-piracy scheme that allows a limited number of installs for 2K Games' waterlogged shooter (story). There is an accompanying FAQ to clear up questions about installation and activation that includes word that the game can be uninstalled and reinstalled on the same machine repeatedly without using up additional activations, that owners of the Steam version don't need this because uninstalling the game in Steam automatically deactivates it, and that the tool will not work for owners of the Direct2Drive edition.

Bigoted? Small minded? Homophobic? Represent the absolute worst in what the rest of the world sees in modern America? Then you're Zephalephelah!

Seriously, you need some form of help...

I think we could all pretty much agree that a more efficient form of copy protection would be an audio file that you were forced to listen to if you violated the copy protection. I'm thinking a 30 minute diatribe by a paranoid self described asshole like Zephalephelah on guns and why he's a "nice guy" would do the trick. Unfortunately, it most probably would overwhelm the local emergency services infrastructure nationally as people began sorting their guns by barrel flavor. And these would be people who are anti-gun. Then Zephalephelah and those of his ilk could hold them up as gun martyrs. Everybody wins.

I predict a huge job market in copy protection audio for internet tough guys with bulldog mouths and hummingbird asses who use a concealed weapons.

I've never read discussions here, and I don't like to get involved in internet forum bullshit, but I feel compelled to comment on Zephalfdkasj's completely irrelevant and lengthy tangent into concealed pistol carry, followed by a discussion of his warrior ethos: Rarely is extreme insecurity so painfully, transparently obvious. Jesus, it's embarrassing to read shit like that.

That was quite possibly the worst pro-gun argument I've ever seen.

That was not a pro-gun argument. That was a pro-stupidity argument.

There's a reason that no one invades the United States. A vast amount of us are armed, and some are armed to the teeth.

Yeah, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that the US has the most powerful military on the planet. It must be that they're all just afraid of you and your handgun.

That was quite possibly the worst pro-gun argument I've ever seen.

I carry a gun in case it gets way out of hand
Thankfully I live in a country where handguns are illegal, as I certainly wouldn't want to come across nutjobs like you with weapons.

There's a reason that no one invades the United States. A vast amount of us are armed, and some are armed to the teeth.

I bring my pistol everywhere I go, even if its just to go to the bank (not illegal btw) or the gas station. Although it is illegal to carry in a bar, so I don't do that.

presumably because you have no money and live in a rough area

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I have a computer, an internet connection, a $750 weapon, but no money??? You're kinda stupid, even for a foreigner "theyarecumminginyou".

The people that I do know, I care about deeply and I am a giving, gracious, loving, kind man.
Yeah, until one of them tries to steal from you... then you'll whip out the machete and serve up your own homebrew punishment I'm sure.

Fact of the matter is that I don't have one single illegal program on my computer at all.
Good for you. The fact of the matter is that I have only one illegal piece of software on my computer and that is Photoshop CS3. I do not use it for professional gain but to edit a few images for signatures of forums and the such... I intend to purchase a legitimate licence when appropriate but haven't so far. This is a different situation from just 5yrs back when I had pretty much no legitimate software. I don't claim to be the most moral person but I do claim I'm a better person than you, as the only thing you seem to take pride in is starting flamefests on Bluesnews and carrying a concealed pistol (presumably because you have no money and live in a rough area).
The usual idiotic post from Zephalapuff.

I was making a point about concealed carry & how you don't want to be a test case for Adobe's possible Gestopo tactics.

If you don't get it, then it's not my fault.

The only thing I do is insult people, and that's because I'm an asshole to almost anyone I don't know. I carry a gun in case it gets way out of hand; but I don't concede the right of way on the roads, and I don't back down when tough young men talk shit, I talk it right back

Ya got to wonder WTF was that long winded rant about, and what does it have to do with Bioshocks DRM?

Having money or not is a pretty piss poor excuse in the context of all of this. We're talking about a video game, not food.

He didn't say "video games" or "luxury goods," he said we should impose amputations for theft. I was responding to that blanket statement.

Sure, if every program on the computer was like that, then yeah you have a point; but this is one single game & everyone is getting all worked up about it. So what.

Zeph, I take it you aren't familiar with the phrase "slippery slope."

Quake Wars comes with no copy protection at all, that's the way I like it. World in Conflict makes me download a no-cd crack though....

Fortunately for World in Conflict online play there's a separate executable that doesn't require the CD, an old yet good method. One that I'm thankful for, considering some alternatives...

the solution is for more pirates to be prosecuted so people know that stealing games is not risk free. less piracy would mean less need for this shit. the devs don't want it any more than you do, but they need to eat.
