We'll be unlocking The Orange Box products just after midnight Pacific time next week on the 10th of October. Lots of people have been having a lot of fun with the Team Fortress 2 beta, so we're looking forward to seeing what people think of Portal and Episode Two. The Orange Box will also be available at North American game retailers later on the 10th, for both PC and XBOX 360.
I'd like to point out, so people don't have to do look up time differentials and do math, that 00:00 in Pacific time (PST) is 09:00 in European time (CET)
Are you guys really that concerned about whether a cartoon comes out on Wednesday or Thursday???
I'm not buying this until it's on Ebay for $20 or less. But hey, if you're that easy to advertise to, then can I advertise my business here so you'll send me money? I'll just ask blue to make a news statement when I think of a new thing to sell, then when I announce it, then while I'm working on it there will be about 5-8 news blurbs, and finally when I'm getting ready to go public there will be a few beta news reports and several gold reports. In all, I won't really have to MAKE ANYTHING AT ALL, blue will make the hype for me and I'll just steal your money and run to Mexico.
I always think of midnight as the end of the day (11:59PM going into 12:00AM) and anything past 12:00AM (even by one second) as morning. Usually prefaced with an "early."That's why Valve made clear in earlier announcements that it would be unlocked 12:01am on October 10th - adding that extra minute makes it a whole lot less confusing (even though to me it is common sense).
Steam users will be able to play at midnight (PST) on the 9th, and stores will have it when they open their doors on that day. I don't see a problem with it, really.

I just finished playing through HL2 and Ep1 to get ready for Ep2 and, though the gameplay is polished, I am less than thrilled with the story aspect.I hear you. While I loved the general feeling and most gameplay aspects of HL2, it lacked any real story driven motivation for the player to advance, making him feel like he's not having an impact on anything in the game universe. EP1 even aggravated that by still refusing to give any answers to the general plot and by simply making "advancement" the main goal again.
