Hey, I'm also getting error 10258. I tried asking for help on Relic's boards, but am not getting much. Golem, can you be more specific as to how you solved the error? Thanks, man.

Golem, I've noticed that you had the same error code that I am experiencing(error code 10258). I still can't figure what my problem is and I've noticed that you have figured out what the error was caused by so I wonder if you could help me out on this? thanks.

I figured out my trouble with that bogus Error Code. It was the security features in XP blocking the install. I hate it when the OS doesn't warn you and the installing program doesn't warn you either. Damned if you do... damned if you don't.

So anyway I have only been able to play for about an hour but I can tell already it was well worth the $40. The few maps I looked at were great looking... as usual I wish there were more though.

I love the British tech & command trees from what I have seen. I look forward to besting the Panzer Elite with the inferior tanks.

I'm also one of those that rarely plays a single player campaign. I spend 90% of my time in Skirmish mode and/or Co-Op with a friend against AI. But I have logged a couple dozen hours playing online with friends and using the quick match features Relic has.

So far the only complaint is the new weather effects can't be disabled. You get two choices from what I saw on a few maps. They should have added a third choice... no weather effects. It would have been nice but the effects do look great so it's a minor gripe.

Can't remember the name of that little British armored car but it will be great for early rushes and harassment.

D'oh! I better crash so I can get up early and get into the game before all my appointments pull me away again for most of the day.

Looks like Relic has done it again. They have become the masters of RTS.

CoH has been like digital crack whenever I play it. Only RTS I've played online in a long-ass time at this point.

The visuals are great, the audio is great, the game mechanics have been great, the morphing battlefield is great. For some reason I get so worked up when I play this and get such a stupid rush everytime. I'm sure most RTS' provide this, but none have pulled me into it like CoH has.

Just an amazing game all around, too bad it seems like their marketing budget for this was about $12.50

If it gives me the same feeling that WiC does, I guess that'll mean I'm done with RTS's for good. When I play some of them now, I can't figure out what I found so fun about them all those years ago. Maybe I'm just getting old.

This is exactly how I feel. They always look good, and I know they're an improvement over the old school games, but I'm just not finding them that fun anymore... don't know what it is. I used to play AoE, AoM, C&C, WC2, TA:K, EE and lots more... but I can't get into any of them anymore... I found C&C3 fun, but I didn't even get around to playing it multiplayer.

Kind of like a hybrid.

It's standalone, but it includes the old armies so that you can play with/against them, just not as them.

Sort've explained it in the patch news item below.

The beta is super fun, but it also feels weird at times. I mean.. the British can't get a standard machine gun.. or mortar..and that feels weird. I mean.. you got a machine gun in a nest, you'd think you could just pick up the machine gun and walk off. Or, pick up the mortar and walk off. Instead the guys inside are like "AHHHH I'm burning to death! HELP! HELPPPP..." then some guy outside is like "So uhhh just leave the nest.." then the guy inside is like "AHHHH I can't!!! I've been chained to this position by the ankle!!"

Of course it's a game and it already makes a lot of unrealistic decisions but these gameplay mechanics just go overboard for me. Regardless, still an awesome game and I will definitely get this expansion soon. My only gripe is that I have to pay for the singleplayer campaigns, too, despite the fact that I never play RTS singleplayer campaigns. Wish there was a "multiplayer only" edition of the game with a discount or something, u know??

Not to happy right now. Just got the box opened and the fucking game won't install because of DirectX? Bull shit...

The installer won't even begin it pops out this bull shit code and tells me to call THQ tech support... WTF?

"An error occurred while configuring essential DirectX components. The install cannot continue. Please contact THQ technical support. (Error code 10258)

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.

Click Finish to exit the wizard."

The reason I think it's bull shit is because this window pops up a second (two max) after entering the install code and hitting continue. Plus every game I have ever installed doesn't configure or install DirectX until the game itself installs. Needless to say I am less than impressed. Not blaming Relic... but THQ just went down a rung on my list.

The company said my Netgear RT311 (similiar as RT314) router is too old and is incompatible. Lame! Other games and Internet programs work just fine!

Original was great, looking forward to the expansion, although not sure when I'll find time to play it.
I'm looking forward to it too, although I'll probably only play through the campaigns. I tried World in Conflict when it came out, but it's lacking something that I enjoyed about CoH. I'm not sure what it is, exactly. Maybe it's too obvious that WiC is a RTS (which would be strange since it borrowed a lot of elements from CoH). It'll be interesting to see how I enjoy Opposing Fronts. If it gives me the same feeling that WiC does, I guess that'll mean I'm done with RTS's for good. When I play some of them now, I can't figure out what I found so fun about them all those years ago. Maybe I'm just getting old.

WiC does have great explosions though.

i liked the beta on this game, the sides play very differently, when they added the original 2 forces (for a total of 4) I was surprised how much different each side is.

It's a steep learning curve if you are new to Company of Heroes in general but the game is really good. The unpredictable nature of things is a nice touch. You can demolish buildings, blow up walls, I think you can blow up just about everything in teh game if you have the right weapons.

Watch Code Monkeys. It's really f-n good.

To be honest, it doesn't sound like you play the game much at all.

(Although I'm in the same boat as you--skirmishes with rare multiplay. Then again, I wouldn't buy this expansion myself--I don't play THAT many skirmishes.)

Two new armies (commonwealth & panzer elite) and one new unit for each of the existing ones.

in simple summary terms, for someone who hates campaigns and only bothers with skirmish and occasional multiplayer.
