The only thing I will say on the matter is that on 9/12, some people wanted us to drop nukes and make any country responsible for 9/11 a glass parking lot. Now, a few years later, and most people think it's a bad war. How could this be? Where are the flags from after 9/11 that waved outside every other home? The plain sad truth of it is that media told people about some patriots putting up flags and everyone bought flags. Now the media says this is a bad war and every one nods their heads like good little sheeple and say this is a bad war. The real problem with Americans is that 95% of them don't think for themselves. They agree with the media. The media thinks for them. There's no use in talking to a bunch of imbeciles whose opinions aren't even based on fact. This war has had very low casualities, 1/3 of which were roadside bombs without a shot being fired, some of which were accidental friendly fire as well. You morons have no clue because you let other people think for you & you get your information from the biased reports of the media. YOU CANNOT THINK FOR YOURSELVES!
I think those people are hypocrites. Many people just follow trends and believe everything they hear. That goes equally for conservatives and liberals. Some conservatives (like my grandparents) would support the war even if it was 300,000 dead, because we're over there "fightin' terrorists" (it's a lot easier to view the enemy as sub-human if you call him a terrorist, regardless of whether he actually is or not). Many liberals were initially for the war (probably out of fear, like most Americans) and later changed their minds when they saw that their fickle constituents had decided the war was bad (after initially supporting it). They use casualty reports to justify their position, when they should have been able to oppose the war before it started. Now it's just a case us using hindsight to complain about a situation they didn't have the balls to help prevent from happening.
I am one of the few people who wasn't calling for blood on 9/12; nor did I go buy a flag to support my country. I don't need to make a posturing, phony display in order to confirm my patriotism. In my opinion, all of the vendors that sold flags after 9/11 (and the ones that sell school paraphernalia after school shootings) were exploiting a tragedy just to make a buck. Why would I support them? The whole "I'd better put my flag out are people might think I support terrorists!" mindset is a result of people not thinking for themselves. Anyway, if you ask me, most of those "drop a nuke" flag wavers were doing it out of fear, not patriotism. One of the things you missed in your rant against "sheeple" is that blindly following "the pack" is what made them support the war in the first place. They ate up everything the media and their leaders in the government fed them, and we went to war.
So as someone who has opposed the war from day one, I would like to say that I can think for myself. I don't need media reports of casualties to affirm my position. I wish there had been more politicians with the balls to oppose the war from the beginning. But most of their decisions are done with re-election in mind, and making a potentially unpopular stand takes more guts than the vast majority of politicians have. Frankly, the political exploitation of the war by both sides sickens me, although I am naturally less offended by the liberals' exploitation (since the end result is people saying what I've been saying all along).
It is possible for people who think for themselves to be against the war without them necessarily being "sheeple". Unfortunately, there are a lot of opposers of the war who lead people to believe we're all hypocrites. I think it's also possible for people to support the war without being brainless tools of conservatives.
