America's Army Backlash

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (thanks GamePolitics) reports on Iraq war backlash directed towards the America's Army game, which has drawn the ire of a group called Iraq Veterans Against the War. The report, which is from a couple of weeks ago, describes a scene where 90 members of the group stood in formation in front of a recruiting event shouting "war is not a game" in a protest that lasted a few minutes. From the description, this sounds like a spontaneous event, rather than part of a larger campaign:
They were referring to the large military simulation game set up by Army recruiters at the Missouri Black Expo. The group of veterans, known as Iraq Veterans Against the War, were in St. Louis for their annual meeting this weekend when they decided to stage a brief demonstration at the Expo.

"Stop crying..." you say. Seriously, what the fuck?

Yes, stop crying! The war in Iraq is a war with the lowest amount of casualities for a war of this magnitude that has lasted this long in all human history.

SO STOP CRYING! QUit being sheeple & realize that besides costing too much, this is *NOT* a bad war. Bunch of idiots that can't even think for themselves & instead believe every fuckin thing that they're spoon fed by the media.

You should read the book "The Art of War" and "Enders Game" these books are required reading in many Military colleges. War is in fact a game in many ways someone always loses. This tool that the Army uses is just one more medium they can use to recruit people as well as TEACH them a "light" fundamental grasp of Army life.

BTW: I played AA as well and I too sucked at it. But I OWN at BF2 Project Reality...hehe

Quoted for TRUTH!

What the fuck are you people talking about?

Look I played America's Army back in the day. I thought it sucked (although I was never any good at it). Anyone who is actually influenced one way or the other by this game has to be a very rare breed of malleable moron.

But -- these protesters are vets who almost certainly *realize* the game is a recruiting tool, and this is exactly why they are speaking out against it. You seem to think they have no clue what the game was designed for and they're just mad it "depicts war as a game" (though you say it is, anyway -- ugh).

Are your comments sarcasm, or are you idiots? "Stop crying..." you say. Seriously, what the fuck?

"War is a game though. Life is a game. Everything is a game.

The sooner they get that, the sooner they can start having fun & start saving credits (money) so that they can buy levels (cars and houses) and stop crying like newbs!"

Like many Americans this group fails to understand the basic concept of the game as a tool for recruitment. Most of us have all played the game & have actually learned quite a lot about how the military works & have been educated. The shooting portion of the game is actually a small part of the bigger picture. The army has stated numerous times that the game has been a "good" recruitment tool. Just my .2

I'm looking forward to the Unreal 3 engine upgrade..eventually.

If this were a "highly-anticipated" game, men in blacks suits have already invaded the veterans neighborhoods, first-person and vehicular action over various terrain, gun battles in 15 different urban settings, save your friends and family from the evil government regime! In stores...when it's done.

Currently playing Everquest 2 (heard it's become a really good game...we'll see)

Glad these guys are just uncovering an Unreal-Engine-1 game. Looks like our military really does have shitty intel.
