Free Ubi Games

Ubisoft has released three of their older games as free advertising supported releases, offering Far Cry, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and Rayman Raving Rabbids to those with free Ubi.com accounts who are willing to endure some ads in exchange for their free games. The downloads showed up on FilePlanet, where it seems that a paid subscription is required for the download. The games are also available on 3D Downloads (Far Cry, Raving Rabbids, and Sands of Time) and Gamer's Hell (Far Cry, Raving Rabbids, and Sands of Time), and downloading and installing the games works fine. Again, the games do require a Ubicom account, and while the free play is ad supported., I didn't not encounter any ads during a brief test run to see how they are presented.

the game consumer who wants free games are strictly younger teens with limited disposable income. And arent they playing LIVE on xbox360 in droves already? I'm not convined this will succeed but there's no harm for UBIsoft to try. I'd not interested at all in an internet client pushing ads under the hood.

Be prepared to PAY for games WITH adverts in future. This is just stage 1 of that plan.

Have you noticed the "the ways its meant to be played" logo at the start of every game worth mentioning, the last couple of years?

Actually, we do that already. SC: Chaos Theory had ads, as does practically every EA game out there.

moo: you are behind the times, BF2142 has adverts when you play, in-game ones, not just in the menu. And you have to pay for that game. There's been previous games like that too, I think SWAT4 was the first?

"We're all getting screwed by this"

How, well, first they charge us for games with no adverts, then they give OLD games with adverts, next up. We have to PAY for games WITH adverts

Remember when Tribes 2 was released FREE? Yeah you can download it but can you get a KEY for it? No.

I now feel screwed by my purchase of FarCry now its for FREE ,not to mention it had copy protection we had to PAY for.

Get adverts into NORMALITY. This is the grand plan of the NWO and the Illuminati (my homepage is set to http://www.abovetopsecret.com/ )

Anyone - not from the US - who has troubles with "Sands of Time" existing after a few minutes with a dialog box stating "An Unexpected Error Occurred" (or something along those lines)?

Wow, someone seems actually to get the concept of ads eliminating cost as opposed to just trying to sneak them into bought software for more revenue and user-annoyance.

Yeah, but you have to consider what "eliminating costs" means.

If a gaming company has a $30 million dollar budget, and they realize the game will cost $35 million to make the way they want, so they hook up with an ad company for that extra $5 million and still sell the game for full price, didn't they eliminate cost in some regards?

I'm ok with that. The benefit of the ads is still passed on to the user, because we got the full game instead of one rushed to meet buget. But since gamers pay the same amount out of pocket they'll still complain.

Wilson:
As I implied previously, you found the clone, not the crack. Go to nforce and search for chaos theory, you can search for the nfo on the crack by reloaded.
It has 1 step, copy the crack files.
No need to mess with IDE drives, which again, is the CLONE.
There's a differance. Clones DO NOT remove protection, only fool it. Cracks remove the protection. So stop blithering about the CLONE and its 20 steps which DOES NOT REMOVE STARFORCE!!

Someone has already told you where you can find the crack as well.

Also, when you talked about the game earlier you said you wanted "someone" a direct quote, to remove starforce. You didn't specify ubisoft.
"I'd like to see someone un-Starforce Chaos Theory"
So I satisfied your stated desire by pointing out where someone removed it, now stfu kthx

does that mean they get lots of red marks and See Me's for botching up Double Agent, Silent Hunter, Ghost Recon and other recent cock-ups?
It's certainly possible, but I won't comment on that because I don't know those games.

Edit: forgot to quote

Now if developers would dump SecurRom. That program is as bad as Starforce, if not worse.

So that's another gold star for Ubi (the first being ditching of Starforce).
If they get gold stars for this, does that mean they get lots of red marks and See Me's for botching up Double Agent, Silent Hunter, Ghost Recon and other recent cock-ups?

I've wanted to see Sands of Time, so I'll check this out. Image my machine, set the game up, tolerate the ads for a week or so, restore the previous image when finished, and it'll be like it never existed. Perfect.

Raving Rabbids for the Wii is fun because of the motion detection. But on the PC? A bunch of button-mashing doesn't sound like much fun to me.

The more aggressive ads in Rayman seem to hint at some experimentation on the part of Ubi... testing if subtle ads, like in Sands of Time (AFAICT) do the job, or if really impertinent ads like Sixi mentions in Rayman "need" to be done. Or they are simply trying to test, how far a gamer can be pushed with ads.

I wonder...

Anyway now downloading Rayman.

The advertising in the Rayman game is painful. Every time you start/complete/fail a mini game this horribly annoying 20 second ad for McDonald's appears. The same exact ad. Over and over and over. I'd imagine if you played through the entire game you'd see this ad hundreds of times. I couldn't take more than 20 minutes of it.

Someone should have told them that if you do that to people it gets them to hate your company with a passion (not that McDonald's needs much help with that these days).
