Gold - Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars

Activision and id Software announce completion of development on Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, Splash Damage's teamplay shooter. The duplication and distribution process won't be especially quick, however, as the game is slated to be available in Europe and Australia on September 28 and in North America on October 2:
Santa Monica, CA – August 30, 2007 – The ultimate online team and objective-based multiplayer experience is locked and loaded! id Software™ and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars™ for Windows® PC has gone gold and will be available in retail outlets in Europe and Australia on September 28, 2007 and on North American store shelves beginning October 2, 2007. Developed by Splash Damage, the prequel to the futuristic wars in the QUAKE II storyline pits the armies of Earth’s Global Defense Force (GDF) against the invading alien Strogg in the multiplayer action shooter that transports players to the front lines in the battle for Earth.

“After months of testing, tweaking and balancing Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, I’m pleased to finally be able to say ‘It’s Done!’” said id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead. “We’ve had a ton of fun getting the game ready for the masses and I’m looking forward to seeing the massive battle for the top of the online leaderboards begin!”

To date, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars has won more than 15 awards and has been heralded as one of the most anticipated new titles in 2007 by nearly a dozen publications.

“The opportunity to develop Enemy Territory QUAKE Wars has been mind-blowingly cool!” said Splash Damage Owner and Creative Director Paul Wedgwood. “The passion and effort put in by our team at Splash Damage, combined with the amazing direction and mentoring we’ve received from id Software has lead to an award-winning game that we’re incredibly proud of. Our team can’t wait to join fans across the globe to fight in Earth’s battle for survival!”

Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars for Windows PC is rated “T” by the ESRB and carries a suggested retail price of $49.99 for the regular edition and $59.99 for the Limited Collector’s Edition. To learn more about the game and to secure a pre-ordered copy, visit http://www.enemyterritory.com/.

Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars takes place in the year 2065 and gives gamers the chance to play as the GDF or Strogg in one of five unique character classes, either online or offline with computer controlled AI teammates and opponents. Employing an arsenal of weapons, vehicles and deployable armaments, players engage in an action-packed test of skill and coordinated teamwork through a series of combat objectives. Persistent character growth and achievements reward players for teamwork, while clearly defined mission and class objectives guide new players to meaningful contributions on the battlefield.

Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is also in development by Nerve Software for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and by Activision Foster City for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

It is probably one of the main reasons why this game will ultimately fail, players will endlessly compare and contrast the way ETQW works and plays to Battlefield and most often will come to the conclusion that Battlefield, despite its many flaws, implemented most of these apparent similarities better.

Agreed. The ETQW beta was fun, but it only succeeded in making my play BF2142 again, because, to me, it's so much better.

IS THAT POSSIBLE??

Well, yeah, I was being kind of a dick. Don't take it to heart and enjoy your games, whatever the platform you play on.

BF literally invented the type of gameplay that ETQW is imitating so if anything is rehashed garbage its the latter.

Bizzaro, you are obviously a moron. Anyways...

I haven't played beta 2 yet, but I think threads like this do a good job of weening out the pussies from the players.

Thank God we have forums like this to get rid of the pathetic shits that can't learn how to use a mouse or their brain. Natural Selection rocks.

I'm buying a new computer for this. Later dumb fucks. Go back to your consoles. I still play ET several times a week. It's not for the faint hearted. Please leave, and, oh. Seriously, Just, Fuck off and go noodle your little controller thingie.

It's sad to see such vitriol between blues members, both of whom I respect.
That's where you've got it wrong. If you despise everyone then it's funny to see people laying into each other - who wins makes little difference; it's just entertaining. Unless of course it's Riley, in which case you know he's wrong and it's just about how much you can irritate him.

That is complete and utter crap. The battlefield series has never been a "vehicle combat game first" but always been about combined arms with infantry at its core.
Karkand the most popular BF2 map hardly has any vehicles in it.

Karkand is irrelevant. People in BF2 migrated to infantry only/low vehicle maps, but that doesn't change the overall goal of the Battlefield series which had gameplay that was dominated by vehicles. Look at the jets, helicopters, and tanks with the ability to shell across the map.

You can do objectives in vehicles in BF. You have to get out and actually do more than flag-standing in ET:QW.

ET:QW has FAR more similarities to Team Fortress and Tribes than it does Battlefield, which shouldn't be surprising as SD's first effort was Quake3 Fortress, and many of them are former Tribes players.

No it did not.

BF is a vehicle combat game first, then a FPS. QW is trying to be a FPS first. As for the other similarities, BF did not even come close to inventing.....

And that it's large scale battles for objective points, both indoor and outdoor, team vs team, fire-teams, etc, etc, etc.

You could use that same laundry list to compare ETQW to a number of different first person shooters, there’s nothing in ETQW that makes it feel anything like Battlefield.

It is probably one of the main reasons why this game will ultimately fail, players will endlessly compare and contrast the way ETQW works and plays to Battlefield and most often will come to the conclusion that Battlefield, despite its many flaws, implemented most of these apparent similarities better.

and you're still a trolling retard.

Not only that! But he's the kind of pathetic little faggot that will google your name and research you like stalker.

He found out that I wrote some fan fiction for a game once and thought that somehow that knowledge would hurt me. I'd like to meet that mother fucker on the street and see how much his faggoty ass little poop-sniffing machine deals with me when he's not hiding behind Blue like a mother fucking coward bitch boy!

Anyway, grudgebearer. Not only are you allowed to change your opinion; you are allowed to spend or not spend your money in any fashion you choose.

He's just pissed that he chose such a gay name as that of some forgotten faggot band from the 80's. Talk about a downward spiral, that piece of shit is probably a fat old man by now that couldn't keep his body together. I'm talking about nin, in case you somehow missed it.

the only similarities between the two are that they’re both first person shooters and have vehicles

And that it's large scale battles for objective points, both indoor and outdoor, team vs team, fire-teams, etc, etc, etc.

There are far more similarities than the 2 obvious ones you state and the natural comparison is to the Battlefield games and rightfully so.

If ETQW is imitating anything its unreal tournaments assault mode, and not very well at that.

ETQW may look like a battlefield clone but the only similarities between the two are that they’re both first person shooters and have vehicles.

Wow someone has way too much time on their hands...

But apparently your reading comprehension skills have failed to evolve along with your trolling.

As I said, I had high hopes for this game, but the final product has turned out not to be what Splashdamage had set out to do.

In the end the BF series is still rehashed garbage, ET:QW still has better conceptual MP gameplay than most of the titles coming out, and you're still a trolling retard.

Life goes on.

"Oh and for the record...BF2142 is going to be another "lets all stand around this flag for awhile and shoot, then we can go and stand around that flag for awhile and shoot" game. There has never been any real objecitve-based gameplay in any of the BF series and as long as EA is envolved it will be the same rehashed gameplay with revamped graphics.

ET:QW will make this game look and feel as tired and rehashed as it truly is. "

I think not having built in VOIP in the game hurts its.
Every AAA title has VOIP in game these days.

Also from a philosophical standpoint, I cannot support a game with in-game advertising.

Server operators shouldn't support in game advertising either unless they get a cut of the revenue.
