I've gotten this on FEAR in the last week as well as the NVIDIA 680 driver packs for vista (32 bit).

Actually looking at my virus vault and logs either I've gotten an absurd number of virus infections or they've changed their algorithm to something a bit overzealous since this dates back to about august 17 where it started flagging files in my computer that are years old and untouched as being infected.

I run AVG free on XP, fully up to date, and haven't had any problems with Steam, Bioshock, or anything else. It's never given me a false positive. Or any positive, for that matter. Maybe I should feed it a test virus sometime.

Well as soon as it flagged it I deleted it, thankfully the saved games are there. So then I uninstalled it. We shall see how well this SecurRom thingie works when I reinstall it

I had AVG flag Steam a month ago, and WinRAR before that. As someone else commented it's usually such a well behaved program, but its odd to see it coming up with these false positives on such common programs.

I don't use any protection I occasionally download a few free spyware cleaners but rarely find anything.

I *never* disable virus protection (Symantec on desktop, MacAfee on laptop) and have never had any problems. I would think it odd if someone told me that they regularly disabled virus protection. It starts on bootup, and I never think about it. (except when the weekly full-scan results report pops up)

normally, yeah, I would agree that disabling AV while gaming is good. But AVG has been so well behaved and inconspicuous for me that I just don't bother.

Though of course, if you're tech savvy enough, one can argue why you would even need AV software period.

Who runs antivirus while playing games?

Well, some of us run AV in the tray, all the time.

Bioshock giving “false positive” from AVG Antivirus. Who runs antivirus while playing games?…

I actually got this the other day and I wasn't even playing Bioshock. I booted up XP and left it on for a few hours and when I came back to the machine it had the AVG popup. But whenever I play the game I always disable the real-time scanning.
