Here are the posts from the first 50 replies on the BioShock Widescreen Woes & you guys are so completely out of touch that I just have to make the longest post in BluesNews history to set your stupid asses straight on this matter…
Post #10, by Wilson:
Just found out my old X800XL (Shader Model 2.0) is apparently not supported. This thing wasn't exactly top-of-the-line when I picked it up for Oblivion, but I sorta expected it'd serve me a little better than this (Oblivion was pretty well CPU limited from what I could tell, and HL2 ran and runs quite nicely). My frame rate probably would've blown since I run 1280x1024 with this damn LCD, but it would've been nice at least to be able to try the demo out.
The worst part is that if I upgrade my video card, it probably won't be long before I'll need a processor upgrade. Since I'm running socket 939, that pretty much means a new motherboard so I can use an AM-2.
I don’t even know where to start on this one. (DEEP BREATH). Okay, Wilson, look, fuck man, wow, um, shit…
A. HalfLife2 is an old game
B. I run most of my games 1024x768 and I have a monitor capable of 1920x1440. Why do I do this? Because if I have a car capable of driving 180mph, it doesn’t mean that I need to drive 180mph everywhere I go. In fact, if a car can go 180mph (most cannot even come close to this), then I don’t want to be pushing it all the time; I want to feel the real power of the product, which will be in the acceleration, not the top speed. Frankly, you & anyone like you are idiots for pushing every damn percentage all the time. If a gun can shoot outward to a mile then you shoot a ½ mile. If a machine can perform 100Whatevers/minute, then you set it to 80Whatevers/minute so that it runs at maximum performance. MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE IS NOT TOP SPEED!!!!!!!!! MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE IS THE BEST A PRODUCT CAN DO CONSTANTLY. You lose because you’re a moron that pushes his shit too far because you think it’s the thing to do because you don’t know jack shit about machines or limitations.

According to some peeps of the widescreengamingforum this is just a FOV issue that doesn't adjust properly.
Still, it again shows that absolutely ZERO percent testing went into this title.
I wish I could still cancel my preorder so I wouldn't be supporting this kind of fucking shite support.
Creston
Zero testing? Why would I test an inferior product like a widescreen monitor? More on this later. For now, I just find it humorous that you still sign your name like you’re writing us love letters.

This is the laziest "implementation" of widescreen I've had the misfortune to watch in the last three or so years, barring EA's complete ignorance. Well done, Irrational. Way to take the lazy ass way out.

Edit 2 : "To be fair, I was playing it on my new beautiful 22 WS LCD monitor without a problem. "
Noone is saying that it gives a "problem" as in the game becomes unplayable because of it. However, in the year 2007, with a sizeable number of people now actually having widescreen monitors, implementing a widescreen "solution" that makes you SEE LESS than you would on a normal monitor is just fucking ridiculous.
my new beautiful 22 WS LCD monitor without a problem…
Oh, so that’s why the poor little boy is upset. AW… his new toy won’t work with his new game. AW… Poor kid.
Creston, you should A: know better about the technology of widescreen (more on this later as I’ve stated) & B: you should definitely know better than to buy anything New, ever. I thought we all learned that lesson with Doom3. Buy from Ebay after it tanks or buy it a couple weeks later if it doesn’t. Why are you freaking out like some german kid ( see video of yourself crying like a little girl…

I'm in the same boat and a little ticked (my X800XL was originally purchased for Oblivion as well . Against my better judgement I actually went out and bought it today only to find out it wouldn't play on my card (no mention at all on the box regarding the Pixel Shader requirement); fortunately I took it back and with a little fighting I got a refund. AGP cards seem to be getting scarce so it looks like I may be forced to upgrade the entire system. A shame too as the card is still pretty good (imo). PC gaming seems to be turning into a big hassle and almost has me considering just getting a console. It'll probably be easier and cheaper that way (and most games seem to be cross-platform nowadays anyways).
Okay kwyjibo, I’m going to take you seriously & tell you what’s up. In the 90’s when 32bit Windows took over the scene, people had to upgrade their systems at least every 6 months. Everyone paid very, very close attention to the game requirements because by the time a game hit the shelves, it was time to upgrade. This wasn’t infrequent, it was all the time! Those days are coming again because 64bit is starting to emerge and technology isn’t going to stand still just so you can have your nice computer remain nice for years and years like a couch or a truck. Computers & technology never stand still! Motherboards are appearing with 8GB memory capability now. That probably seems like a lot to you. What would you say if I told you that I purchased 2 MEGABYTES OF RAM FOR $150. I didn’t say Gigabytes, I said Megabytes, and I meant it. I did do that, in 1996. Back then I had 14Megabytes of video memory & everyone I knew was envious of me.
Once 64bit computing really becomes a reality, all of the limitations of 64bit computing are going to be up against the wall in 10 or 20 years just the same way that the 32bit computing is up against the wall with barriers now. Most people can’t get more than 3Gigs of memory to show up on their computers right now, even if they have 4Gigs installed. We are at the end of an age & the beginning of a new age.
Back in the late 90’s, you had to upgrade the entire computer structure every six months. I am not kidding. So crying about a video card that doesn’t work, pretty much just makes me laugh at you because in 5-10 years you’re probably going to have a 256GIGABYTE VIDEO CARD & it won’t even be top end.

This game is far from untested. I can't speak to this widescreen issue as I personally am not experiencing it (I'm running widescreen with no issues) but this is one of the most polished titles I've seen in years. I've heard about the Audigy issue as well but my tenant is using my old Audigy 2 and is having no problems either. I don't disagree that these are important issues that need to be addressed but at least Ken Levine himself (not some low-level 2K moderator) responded, apologized and said he's trying to get answers, even though his team is on what undoubtedly is a well-earned vacation. Compared to what passes as acceptable quality these days though, this is a gem.
Parallax appears to have all this in clear perspective. Ken Levine is working on it for you whiny little widescreeners. I’ll even explain later why it doesn’t work yet. You’ll be surprised & educated.

So this is interesting... I use a mouse left handed, and am pretty good at first person shooters, but BioShock won't let me set my normal movement keys because one is not changable.. so I decide to shift my movement keys one to the left.. and one of those keys is not changable.
WTF?
Instead of WASD, I use IJKL --except in this game-- which is the only game that has ever made this an issue. I tried using UHJK, but it won't let me do that, either.
That's freakin' awesome.
To me, this is a more serious problem then the lack of widescreen. Widescreen for many people is a kind of luxury. To me it is not, but hey they think it is & in some ways technically it is difficult to push light that far out from the center of the screen, but whatever. This problem of not being able to assign any key you want to assign reminds me of the abortion Battlefield2 and that horrid setup screen where even if you cleared the key from aircraft uses, boat uses, land uses, and toilet uses, you still couldn’t use some of the keys ever. What a shit game. Plus the sniper in that game was about as useless as a guy with a pocket-rocket.
Post#27, by JimCognito:
What is inexcusable is that guy from 2k saying people are on vacation. Give the guys some days off before launch, not on launch day. That's just bad management. You know damn well problems will come up and it’s best to have as many people as possible in the offices to fix problems asap or risk backlash.
Take some business classes. Everyone works until a product ships, then they celebrate, take time off, and return to work later. Why don’t you call them up & offer your services & time to fix it?

Yes, games have bugs. "Widescreen support doesn't work" isn't a bug. It's either lazy ass design or just plain no testing.
(not bitching at you btw.)
Creston
I will now explain the widescreen support issue to you. I’m actually quite surprised that you don’t know this by now Creston, because sometimes you’re pretty damned smart. In the regard though, you’re more like a spoiled little fuck that I’d like to just push over a cliff instead of bother placing over my knee. You remind me of PeeWee Herman for some reason, maybe more like Barney Fife. You’re just a cry baby because you’re not getting your way & you don’t even pretend to know the science behind why.
Ah, fuck you, I’ll explain the reasoning later. I sure don’t want to do you any favors. I’d rather not say anything & just laugh at your dumb ass being technically blind in the dark about it all.
Post#29, by JimCognito:
It's not all wide screens not working, mine works fine. I just have audio issues.
No problems from Jim on the widescreen, but that’s probably cause he’s too stupid to know the difference. He does bounce back & forth in the forums here about the game. I love it. I hate it. You’re right. You’re wrong. Whatever. Most likely, the audio issues are because he’s just not capable of managing his computer properly.

Yeah, cos after 6 months of 6-7 days a week it's totally unreasonable to let a couple of staff off to have a holiday...
The "widescreen" issue (I've seen it, I use a 24" WTFT) is annoying, and something I definitely want fixed, but it's not something I'm going to go postal over (unlike a lot of those posters on the 2K forums who seem to be on the edge).
Point out a freaking game that doesn't have a single issue on release day or a company that couldn't have made a better choice given the miracle of 20/20 hindsight...
The voice of reason.
