Well, just finished the demo with the new drivers...


Various thoughts:

A couple of small sound stutters. But otherwise silky smooth performance (@ 1680 x 1050).

I think the interface (in game menu, etc) on the pc version wins, obviously.

But I actually liked the separate fire buttons for weapons/plasmids that the 360 offered.

I noticed a couple of scripted water sequences I don't remember from the 360 version.

Hacking - you seem to be given less time on the PC version, I suspect because it's a lot easier w/ a mouse. That heathens like Ray use.

I couldn't find a way to set AA in the demo.


Other than that, I didn't see much difference between the two versions (maybe some slightly higher rez textures on the Big Daddy?). It looks like, based on the demo, you're getting a damn fine game no matter which version you choose.

Well the same texture issues that are in the 360 demo are also in the PC version. Best way to see this is in the hallway where the tail end of the plane crashes into it. Look at the water coming from the glass walls on both sides. 1 side has the textures the other side looks kinda like a natural gas leak.

Visually some of the shaders have been nicely beefed up, but there are spots where you notice very low textures, like on the landing leading down to the pod. Again some of the new shaders are nice especially on the floor after you go up the lift, and on the airplane wreckage when ya first crash.

Also couldn't get 5.1 working correctly as anything behind me I couldn't hear, but I could hear other things crystal clear as if they were right on top of me but were all the way across a room.

And ran extremly nice on my new system without using the new beta drivers.

I bet the whole reason this PC demo was delayed was so that nvidia could look good given they have branded the game with their "nvidia the way it's meant to be played" catch phrase and they needed some time to release new drivers.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

.....when I consider the size of the demo and then put that into context with the fact that there really isn't anything else out there for now AND all the positive reviews it's getting...I think I'll just go ahead an buy the game. It's not like there is a whole lot else on the PC scene anyways.

Well, for all those complaining about how the long the day is waiting for this game. It's even harder for me because I have this preordered at EB, but bought it through Steam the day it became available because it was near enough $30.00 cheaper. Now, I can either wait for tomorrow and activate my Steam copy or give in and go pickup my preorder in 1.5 hours, which would be rather stupid.

I can get bonus points for this fuelling the Retail Vs. Steam, too, right?;P

I hear you, but Tribes Vengeance needed to be a strong MP game first to satiate the rabid fanbase. I really liked the SP myself, being more of a single player guy. I really just wanted to answer the claim that Levine was not to be trusted after his involement in T:V.

And for the record, Ken Levine and his team worked mainly on the single player portion of tribes, which was pretty darn good, if more than a little unnecessary for a Tribes game.

Not only was it pretty damn fun (even if the story was surprisingly hackneyed), but it was ENTIRELY necessary for a Tribes game!!

I had been longing for a single-player component since the first Tribes, and given that 1 and 2 were both such solid MP games already, I was only too happy to permanently destroy the parts of my brain that had experienced the MP side of T3 and enjoy the SP game for what it was.

The multiplayer was mucked up by another team at Irrational

EDIT It will be interesting to see if there are any problems with the rush to active your steam copy.
