Into the Black

Well someone in advertising high command spent a little too much time with their crack pipe today, leaving us with an ad for SuperBad that kept talking, even when the ad showed up in multiple places on the page. As a result I have pulled the ad code to wait out the crack binge. In the meantime in my hacking around, I managed to kill part of the menu… Until I fix that, if you need to use the "Search!" function, it can still be found on other pages, so clicking on a forum link will bring it up.

And your comment about conditioning is not valid either.
Just taking steroids does not really make you stronger.

Excuse me? Where did I make that connection??

Yes, they make it easier to grow muscle, but just gaining muscle doesn't automatically translate into home run mastery. Reflexes, bat speed, batting eye, plate discipline are all just as important as raw power.

You know, before the steroids era, a lot of hitters shied away from bulking up, because they found that whatever advantage they gained in power, they lost in bat speed due to having to schlep those big muscles over the plate.

So why are they bulking up now? Probably because the focus on conditioning intensified about the same time all those home run friendly ballparks were built in the '90s. Maybe they put 2 and 2 together and thought steroids would be the wonder pill to put them over the competition. Ballplayers aren't the most intellectual bunch out there. They still subscribe to a fleet of superstitions and still try to get away with corked bats even after all kinds of in depth studies have shown those bats to make no difference in helping one hit home runs.

It would help explain why the majority of guys getting busted in MLB for steroid usage perform no differently than they did after getting caught. And since there is still practically no scientific evidence to back up steroid usage and home run hitting ability, I'm left to guess that the only benefit a hitter gains by taking them is placebo-like.

The guy that came up with that "amusing fact" is probably like all the other peabrains that think bulking up with steroids does anything to help hit home runs: Doesn't know jack shit about conditioning or baseball.

Actually, it does help, a lot. Hitting the ball harder helps.

And your comment about conditioning is not valid either.
Just taking steroids does not really make you stronger. You still have to workout and exercise. The steroids trick your body into regrowing more muscle after the exercise, thus making your workout more effective and making you stronger. Just taking steroids and not working out will do jack for you; except maybe kill you.

Btw : I discovered a really amusing fact yesterday. Only three players have ever hit more homeruns AFTER their 32nd birthday than they did before. Know who?

Bonds
Palmeiro
McGwire

Gee, how coincidental.

Wow. You need to find the blogger or whoever you got that information from and tell them to extract their self-righteously swollen head out of their ass and check their facts before spewing bullshit like that. Carlton Fisk, Frank White, Brian Downing, Edgar Martinez, and Cy Williams all pulled that off. A couple of them hit about twice as many after turning 32. Oh yeah, and another guy named Babe Ruth. But since he started as a pitcher, I'll let that one slide. And that's just after a few minutes of looking at names down the home run lists. It's probably happened dozens of times.

The guy that came up with that "amusing fact" is probably like all the other peabrains that think bulking up with steroids does anything to help hit home runs: Doesn't know jack shit about conditioning or baseball.

On speculation and reports the record is tainted, because of his alleged steroids use, Bonds said, "This record is not tainted at all. At all. Period. You guys can say whatever you want."

Denile is not a river in Egypt you no talent fuck!

Yeah I agree with you Creston. Let this dickhead have his fucking "fame" and "glory." As far as I'm concerned Hank Aaron is the real homerun hall of famer! Barry Bonds is a homerun hall of shamer.

Edit: sorry about the language. I don't like cheaters (lord knows we deal with those types all the time in games right?)

Bonds finally pulled his 'roids swollen noggin out of his ass long enough to hit number 756. Now that it's over, please Barry, just retire and go away

No shit. That bloated windbag has been on my tv every single fucking night for weeks, and I'm sick and fucking tired of it.
Please Barry, just quit. Just go away and leave baseball alone. Go back to your loveless marriage and pretend to be a good father, so we can then all root for A-Rod or Pujols to put the record back where it belongs : in clean hands.

Cheating asshole.

If he wants to earn the respect and, well, just feel like he actually earned his fame what I would suggest is have him wipe out all homeruns logged since his 1998. This snippet from his Wikipedia page I think perfectly sums it up...

"By the end of the 1999 season, Bonds was already widely regarded as a great all-around player and likely first-ballot Hall of Famer. But at an age in which most players performance begin a slow decline, Bonds' production began to accelerate."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Bonds

By no means am I bashing Barry, but let's be real. If Bonds used steroids I don't care what fucking record he can pull out of his ass the fact of the matter is he cheated to get there while Hank Aaron got there naturally.

And in case you’re wondering Aaron and Bonds are both African American. This has nothing to do with race... it has everything to do with skill and talent.
