Hay, does anyone here know how the retail works with this?

Not only might the retailers might know earlier then the consumer, there are other things.

A lot of companies will reimburse the retailer for lost profit if they lower the price to the new suggest retail price, or give the price difference in credit on the next purchases, etc.

You should see the price drop at the majors tomorrow. This is no different than when the PS3 dropped, Best Buy and Circuit City had their price changed within hours (and this price drop has more advanced warnings). I would say if you don't want to wait for 65nm, tomorrow will be a good day for you!

I don't have any faith in the current 360 hardware. I would rather wait....since some titles I was waiting for are pushed back anyway...and it is still summer and nice out, I don't really have time to play anyway.

Winter for games.

Walmart buys 360s for X dollars. When the price cut goes into effect (they are listed right now for the original price) will they drop theirs tomorrow?

$50 off is nice, but surely it's a no brainer to wait for the 65 nm chip to become mainstream. The extended warranty only covers RROD and the oven-like conditions inside each 360 can cause more break downs than just the RROD. You should then also get a console that doesn't sound like a microwave on defrost setting.

Nope, but I can make an educated guess. Given that a week or two ago there were pics posted from Wal-mart and Circuit City ads for this coming weekend with the lower prices, I assume retail has been aware of this for some time now (especially if it's true that, as Peter Moore claims, MS already has all their price drops planned out). Microsoft probably started reducing the costs to these places a couple weeks ago in preparation for this.

Edit: A quick search found these two links:

Hay, does anyone here know how the retail works with this?
For instance:

Walmart buys 360s for X dollars. When the price cut goes into effect (they are listed right now for the original price) will they drop theirs tomorrow?

Also, won't they stand to lose some $ on their return because of this price drop? I can only assume they buy them from MSFT (or their distributor) at a given price, but now they will be cheaper, etc etc etc.

Anyone here work in the pricing field crunching these types of numbers all day? I can only image retail outlets are pissed if they had been sitting on these things. (Also the PS3s)

I will buy it cause it now costed less than before....but I may wait for the new parts to be put in them, so it doesn't costed me anything to get it replaced (time = money) waiting with games and no console would not be cool.
