Out of the Blue

I saw a tidbit on the news today saying that in the U.S. we spend twice as much money on bottled water every year than video games. Somewhere there's an overworked developer in crunch time thinking about this as he drinks water from a bottle that was filled from a tap. In fairness, some of those faucets can be hard to turn.

Most canadians would be alarmed to know they live in the middle of nowhere and manage their own well water. Fifteen million people in the States drink from personal wells in which they solely are responsible for. You think the CDC records when they get sick?

The extent of federal impact on US public drinking water amounts to an annual visit from the EPA. Public drinking water is most often distributed by a city-owned utility company and from utility coops. The federal government does not distributed water, nor even the state. It is up to states to enact most of their own water sanitation standards.

Blah blah blah, Burden Of Proof, blah blah blah, bring up a bunch of stuff Enahs never talked about so I can move the topic to something else and show how great Canada is and how bad the US is, all while not bothering with the "Burden Of Proof" that I say.

http://www.sierralegal.org/m%5Farchive/pr06%5F10%5F06.html
http://www.sierralegal.org/reports/waterproof.II.report.pdf

From those, and there are many other choice quotes:

Canada lacks enforceable standards for drinking water quality, unlike the United States and the European Union.

The federal government received the only failing grade in the report, getting an 'F' for failing to enact binding national standards for drinking water, failure to ensure safe drinking water for First Nations or properly regulate bottled water, and continuing to permit the use of toxic chemicals – banned in the US and Europe – which are entering Canadian drinking water.

Most Canadians would be alarmed to hear that Health Canada estimates that unsafe drinking water causes 90 deaths and 90,000 illnesses each year in Canada

Whereas the CDC estimated last year that a little over 1,000 people got sick from drinking water in the United States.

I got nothing against Canada. This did not start as an attack against Canada; or any other country. Stop taking it as one. I love Canada and you filthy Canucks! Why do you not bother with the Burden Of Proof of all the other stuff you want to say?

It was nothing more then a response to somebody about bottled water and the quality of it relative to the quality of the US tap water. Health quality wise, not taste.

And just email me and I will tell you where to send the donuts too.

*edit* And note, despite all these "problems" Canadian water is good, in general.

You're the one making the claim, Enahs. The burden of proof is on you to provide. I'd bet dollars to donuts the U.S.' water system overall isn't even in the top ten.

It has nothing to do with hating America, but neing a realist about where the U.S. and other countries choose to spend their tax dollars. Americans always seem amazed when they come to Canada and comment on how clean everything is, and how good the roads are by comparison, et al. And the opposite observations, when we travel to the U.S., is also very much true. Sorry if that hurts the blind patriot in you, but a lot of other countries do a lot of other things much better than the U.S. when it comes to choosing between the general population and big business/the elites.

Now that's the real truth. Learn to cope with it.

Ya feelin ok?

I apologize nin for not being hateful enough. I was not being hateful at all. Just being laconic.

You are a filthy unwashed heathen that does not deserve to bath yourself in the US's water.

Sure it was not hateful to them, but to you.

Will that do? I got more if you want to be insulted more; I just need the slightest invitation!

Also, I hate you.

Yeah... the "water system" is municipal. Good job on that rousing, patriotic speech, though. Shame you don't know jack shit.

Crap crap crap.

I sincerely doubt that. Given what other progressive countries - that far surpass the US on overall quality of life - spend on infrastructure compared to the U.S., I'm certain the U.S. would come up wanting by comparison one more. It's not that the U.S. is incapable, simply an issue of where industrialized nations choose to allocate their resources. The U.S. government chooses the military-industrial complex over its peoples health.

Crap crap crap.

You people take something somebody says and turn it into something political like that for no reason. Go searching around the UN website(s) (WHO) and find out for your selfs.

The US has the best municipal water system in the world. I am sorry that you people hate the US and like to respond with silly straw men arguments and whine and complain and make accusations.

It is the truth. Get over it.

European Heighten Threat Levels Aug 7, 2007, 15:08
Aug 7, 2007, 15:08

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist
threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to
"Peeved". Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to
"Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit
Cross" since the blitz began in 1940 and tea supplies all but ran
out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody
Nuisance". The last time the British issued "A Bloody Nuisance"
warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

Also, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised
its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide". The only two higher
levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was
precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag
factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

It's not only the English and French who are on a heightened level of
alert. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout loudly and
excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain:
"Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans also increased their alert state from "Disdainful
Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also
have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose".

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and the
only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to
deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new
Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Ah yes, a reference to the famous "stick your hands under water for .2 seconds and go" method. Apparently a light misting is all that is required for disinfection for some people, and they always end up going out the door right before me.

I use an paper towel to exit the facility. No way am I touching THAT handle. I keep a mental roster of who doesn't warsh their hands.

nin, just get some spray disinfectant and then when you go to work on his computer, spray the keyboard. Then if he ask why tell him.

And don't forget to douse his mouse as well.
