Into the Black

We got the sad news today that Jaroslaw Krzysztof Marcin Wolski, A.K.A. Jerry "PoliSh" Wolski died suddenly last night. Jerry was a stalwart member of the DOOM/QUAKE community, who maintained websites, helped create seminal machinima movies, organized leagues and tournaments, and was one of the folks who helped put together the original QuakeCon in 1996. In spite of all that old school credibility, PoliSh was only 32 (Saturday would have been his 33rd birthday), far to young to go, much less of what was an apparent heart attack. I had the chance to spend some time with Jerry on a few occasions and always found him to be a warm, fun-loving character. To offer an overused phrase that is quite appropriate, he will be missed, as the world needs more of his ilk. Our heartfelt sympathies to his young widow and his other family and friends. There's a forum post about this on the AHLPoker Forums where more details may end up surfacing.

He will be missed. Jerry was always at the forefront of the 90's gaming community in some way or another and had one of the biggest hearts I've ever known.

Did a little digging, found old photos of PoliSh way back at QuakeCon 96, the very first one at Wendigo's photo gallery:

Anyone know what happened to the other people from that scene? I know Avatar got a job at Infinity Ward making Call of Duty. Not sure what happened to Wendigo. What about Clan Undead?

Blue, got any good stories?

That is sad. He inspired others, including my favorite...

"QML- Was Blahbalicious inspired by any other movie?

Avatar- It was inspired by some of the other Quake movies. I dont think it would exist if Operation Bay Shield hadn't been done, but we ended up scrapping most of the Die Fette Faust ideas."

I hope this kicks a few people in the tail to go get a checkup with some blood taken. I'm only 30, but I just found out my cholesterol and my liver function tests were far from being good... and I'm actually just moderately overweight (6'2" 220lbs) and don't smoke, can run 3 miles in 30 minutes, etc. If I didn't get this checkup and make some life changing moves, this might have been me in a few years.

Go get a checkup!!

Seminal is an understatement-- he was responsible for Operation Bayshield, a Quake movie classic.

Wish the best to his family, this is certainly tragic.
