Democracy 2 Announced

Positech Games Announces Democracy 2, the sequel to their political simulator:
Positech Games, makers of Democracy (www.democracygame.com) Kudos (www.kudosgame.com) and The recently released Kudos:Rock Legend (www.rocklegendgame.com) have today officially announced their next game, Democracy 2.

Democracy 2 is a direct sequel to their popular and award-winning political strategy game 'Democracy'. Like it's predecessor, Democracy 2 puts you in the position of the leader of a new government, tasked with running the country, and keeping the electorate happy in the run up to each election. Democracy 2 will retain the emphasis on complexity, depth and gameplay of the original, with a more sophisticated AI model under the hood, but a similar visual approach to managing all the myriad laws, policies and decisions of your government.

Unlike the original game, Democracy 2 will not model real world countries, but give the player a 'virtual country' sandbox to tweak and adjust as they see fit.

No release date is currently set, although it will certainly be 2007 / Q1 2008.

The very first development screens can be found here:

i think 30 years from now, it will be the same as it is now

In 30 years we'll be living in a simulated fantasy and providing power for sentient robotic lifeforms.

There was an article in Wired a while back regarding the #1 problem with democracy that I 100% agreed with.

The future can't vote.

If you ask me, you can't have capitalist greed with democracy. The greed and "norm" overtakes most peoples thoughts of the future.

..but I think 30 years from now, supporters of "democracy" will be seen as radical left-wing hippie nut jobs, in the same way that Communists were in the 50s.

you know supporters of "democracy" have been around in usa for over 200 years already, right? i think 30 years from now, it will be the same as it is now

everyone knows the iraq war is a total failure - they already know that now, nobody needs 30 years to figure it out

Democracy? Heh. Horse Trading would be a more apt name.

Best of luck to you. I like indie devs, even if I dont like the game in question, Its the quirky games that started me off in this industry and this company at least trys to fill that niche.

that kudos sure looks interesting i might buy it.

"...will not model real world countries..."
maybe they got some heat from certain parties or Political Action Committees for too much 'truthiness' with the first one.

I remember playing a similar game way back in the Atari ST days. Maybe it was called Diplomacy or something, I do remember enjoying it at the time. Not sure if it's my cup of tea anymore.

But at least this indie developer is making what look like unique PC games. Once in a while I go on a binge and slog my way through a truck load of low-budget indie games and sometimes find a gem or two if not a few hours of so-so entertainment. I haven't tried any of these yet, but give it a shot before slagging the thing.

if it isn't modelling any country, then why is there a flag of a current day nation waving about in the screenies?
