The odd thing is,Tribes 1 would work better on the DS than on any console. Until they start properly supporting mouse/keyboard config...

The source code to Starsiege : Tribes has been 'lost' or in other words if it were released someone would get sued big time, they were suppose to hand all that stuff over when Dynamix folded.

Doing a quick search on the web. It seems that all the engine code is essentially the properly of GarageGames while all the art and content (ie. IP) is still the properly of Vivendi.

With that said, I don't think GarageGames would be too happy with the engine being released for free. Nor would Vivendi appreciate their IP being used without them making a buck off of it (remember its easier to market an existing IP than create a new one).

Good thought though.

no need for the source code for T1 when you can license the Torque engine quite cheaply, and its even been updated massively as well

unfortunately no one is working on any Tribes type games with it (or anything else for that matter)

So I guess the NASCAR sim racing community is officially being murdered as well, too.

i hope they would make the source code public for these games so that people can adapt them to public servers.

Yeah, cause that did wonders for the Quake community

The only thing the guys that were running the 2845 mod deserve is a swift kick in the balls. They got more support than they ever deserved considering they never once delivered anything and blamed everything but themselves for not delivering a product.
I have to agree. These 2845/clancore guys haven't delivered on any promise they have made. Except for that "alpha" they released which I actually downloaded... and that itself was weak even for an alpha with tons of features missing. These guys are equivalent to vaporeware. On the other hand they do not get paid for anything and they do it for free so it's not like they owe us anything. But still there are lots of other modders that are far better than they are.

Not 3-D Ultra Cool Pool! They can cancel anything but 3-D Ultra Cool Pool!!

Don't start anything you can't finish. Preferably to component atoms.

There's only one Base server up and running and it is usually pretty full. It's sad that the worthless mods get more attention than the classic gameplay but then, I guess that's to be expected when you have such a steep learning curve.

"OHNOES, THIS IS TOO HARD!!1! LET'S GO PLAY RENEGADES!!"

Wow, The Junkyard is still open and posting on Tribes info. That site was around when i was designing maps for the original game when it was first released. Same staff too, by the looks of it.

i reinstalled Tribes 1 on my box about 6 months ago and there were still dozens of servers still full and playing. now, finding a server running Base and not some fucked up mod is another story. there were full servers dedicated to mods that allowed you to just build stuff and there was no actual battle involved. got pretty addicted to playing the paintball mod with my son until he started shouting "Shazbot!" and "Awe Crap!" in RL situations. then we uninstalled it and forgot about it.

Yes, as if PC gaming has always been the bastion of proper gaming.

Ask the crowd who says Fallout 3 can't work on a console.

Tribes can't be done properly on a console. Gamepads don't have enough buttons and analog sticks are too slow and inaccurate.

If Tribes 3 (Vengeance doesn't count) was designed for multiple platforms (and it inevitably would be), it would turn out like Tribes: Aerial Assault. Slow, clunky and tons of aim assist, completely destroying the very essence of Tribes.

A true Tribes successor could only work if it were designed exclusively for the PC and no publisher will do that anymore. And yes, Crysis will inevitably come out for the consoles.

The Tribes: Renegades team has been working on a Tribes-like game for a while now, called Ascension.

Hate to say it, but it looks like crap.

Ask the crowd who says Fallout 3 can't work on a console.

if you ask the crowd it will tell you Fallout 3 will totally suck because of the lack of groin shots

and I'm not even going to mention the Tribes fanbase which is even worse

Dumb it down for consoles and release it on the 360 with Live support and then it'll be hugely popular, guaranteed.
