Out of the Blue

Well, my access to the internet seems to be back in order, and I imagine that some repair people burned some midnight oil, which is appreciated. I wish I could say I appreciate Verizon's phone support as well, but being outsourced to someone who speaks English just well enough to be able to read the script in front of them, but unable to really converse is a little frustrating. At one point during a pause I asked her: "Are you aware I keep asking questions, but you don't respond?" Her silence was the perfect confirmation of the point. Her supervisor was more knowledgeable, which gave him just enough insight to completely misdiagnose my problem, claiming that because he saw a strong connection on my end, I must need "new drivers for my router" (yes, that's really what he said). I give him credit for following-up, however, as he actually called this morning to inform me that the problem was on Verizon's end, something I had long ago concluded. Humorously, he said the problem was persisting, and he would call me when its fixed, so when there was a problem on their end, he insisted there wasn't one, and now we have the reverse.

Meanwhile, the steam pipe explosion in Manhattan yesterday made MrsBlue's commute home a several hour nightmare, and we had a fireworks show that freaked out my poor Hudson the wonder dog. So, basically the only resident of the BlueTower who didn't have a rough day yesterday was the Gunnar-man, but every day is a good day for Gunnar.

Yup - when an individual can shit in the house or anywhere else they want, and the man cleans it up - that is a good day.

Glad you are back on your feet Blue.

HAHAHAHAHA! Good for you! I'm sure she was thinking "Oh shit! He went off the script! What do I say NOW?!?"

Wow! That is surprising! I would never have suspected that.

I saw the steam pipe news, but it didn't click about you guys being that close...

Jul 19, 2007, 12:04

Hi Guys,

I hate to post such requests here in the middle of your comments but I can't think of a better place to get an answer.

I am looking for the title of a game that I remember playing about 3-4 years ago. The best way I can describe it is that it is basically a more-modern version of the classic game "Final Fight" for SNES. The walk from scene to scene while punching/throwing/beating up thugs. I remember in the modern version you could pick up weapons like pipes and bats etc...

If anyone may happen to know what game I have in mind or even any other games that are similar I would greatly appreciate it. I recently got the TV-OUT working from my PC to TV and have been playing emulators on the TV... sweeet.

You have to quit overclocking your router, Blue - - but if you do then PLEASE keep up on your driver updates.

Some other versions are listed here.
ie: Final Fight 2 or 3? Or a clone. maybe.
Bad Dudes? hehehe
There are a ton of clones out there - good luck!
If you have Mame GoodSets - I am sure you have the game somewhere in your set.

I think there was a game for either the PS1 or PS2 that was a lot like that too. I just forget what it was called because it was at a friend's house.

Hi,

Sorry I should have been more clear. It was a PC game and is not directly related to the Final Fight series, but is very similar in game play.. you'd choose a character, walk down the street and beat the crap out of baddies while moving on to the next stage. Eventually running into the occasional boss...

Seems he got the 'Tard Edition of Customer Support

See this proves my theory about Blue getting my bad luck. I had to call the Microsoft 800 number to verify my Windows XP Key. The last time I got it I couldn't understand the guy reading the key back to me, but they have since updated it so a nice friendly very AMERICAN computer voiced lady, reads it back to you.
Cause as soon as I saw that message I had to call them I was like 'Ah shit, not again..*BIG SIGH*'

Again Sorry Blue heh, better you then me

As for that MC Escher type game. Wow! Saw a clip of it on G4. And who says innovation is dead in gaming? Sadly it looks like a PS3 Exclusive

Super Double Dragon was a pretty god damn fancy-shmancy take on the beat-em-up.

Combatribes is probably the most well-loved of the genre. I personally was always a huge fan of Golden Axe, but that's Sega.

As for the PC... hm...

Fighting Force was a 3D take on the genre, released around 1997; it was also on psx and n64. A freeware/shareware game called Zombie Smashers was basically River City Ransom with zombies came out a few years back as well.

by the way, anyone into overclocking: are there any REASONABLY sized HSF's for LGA775 which still cool relatively well? Arctic Cooling Freezer 7, Zalman 9xxx, Big Typhoon, Tuniq Tower, etc. are all well and good on the temperature front, but is there anything a little more inconspicuous? Case airflow won't be an issue. I'm not looking for bleeding-edge OC'ing, but somewhere between moderate and great cooling capacity.

Super Double Dragon was a pretty god damn fancy-shmancy take on the beat-em-up.

I remember jumping on a Double Dragon game with a line of people behind me (everyone would get to play 1 quarter no continues) - it was the coolest game in the arcade - and I could start the game and end up playing with 10-15 different people.

Play all the way through without dyin'! hahahahaha Good times. I always loved how the screen would chop and slow down when you get near the end and the guys have the machine guns. When they fire it was slow mo stop screen action. hehehehe

/edit: Picked up River City Ransom EX for the DS (er GBA cart). Anyone that doesn't have it should do so - it is hella fun.

There's got to be a happy medium between scientists and bible-thumpers. Like maybe the Easter bunny laid an egg which exploded into the the vast cosmos we see today.

I suppose all those dinosaur fossil exhibits in museums must be hoaxes perpetrated by devil-worshipers.
